Biggin Hill Fresh Start for Hens are rehoming free range hens on 9th May and caged hens on 16th May 2026.

Can you give a hen her first taste of freedom 🌿☀️

The caged hens are VERY special - we’re looking for kind, patient homes for these girls. They are around 72 weeks old and have spent their entire lives in cages. They’ve never felt grass beneath their feet or sunlight on their feathers.

Despite their tough start, many are still laying regularly. But they’ll need a little extra care as they adjust to life beyond the cage. Expect lower muscle tone and fragile bones at first, along with a learning curve as they discover how to be chickens.

What they lack in strength, they make up for in spirit. Watching them grow, explore, dust-bathe, and stretch their wings for the first time is something truly special.

If you can offer a safe, loving home and a bit of patience, these hens will reward you in ways you wouldn’t expect 💛

These two gorgeous girls arrived bald and terrified of other hens and each other.

These girls have been offered an amazing home, I did ask if they would adopt me too 😂

5 hens held back from a recent farm for a bit of extra time, they are still a bit scruffy but their pin feathers are coming through thick and fast. 2 will be black with a bit of brown and 3 brown with a bit of black 😂

If you've been thinking about bringing chickens into your life, now is the perfect opportunity with Biggin Hill Fresh Start for Hens rehoming on the 14th February.

These lovely hens are around 72 weeks old, and are looking for a new home to call their own.

Traditionally, hens at this stage are sold off for very little to the meat industry, but you can give them a second chance at a happy life.
Once they’ve replenished their feathers, they often have plenty of egg-laying left in them and can be wonderful companions, making them great pets for families or anyone who loves animals.
