Hi all. Just a quick update following my neck surgery!
I’m receiving physio but unfortunately still not allowed to work. Can’t risk an injury from a pull or a slip 🙄
I’ll be back at it as soon as I’m allowed
Thank you for your patience and understanding

Strangles update ….

As we moved extremely quickly on the first hint of a pony becoming “not themselves” before actually becoming unwell, we have managed to isolate that pony along with their 3 field friends as the only confirmed cases. This is a result of knowing our horses along with livery horses very well - the beauty of a small livery yard!

Those 4 were moved away out the back of our property with strict bio security measures put in place along with twice daily temperature checks for ALL horses! This meant we operate/d the yard as two separate places.
The sick wing
The healthy wing
We had a plan in place had anymore shown any signs out of the ordinary.

I’m pleased to note that for the last 4 weeks this has worked fantastically. This allowed all the healthy horses to be guttural pouch tested this week to be confirmed that ALL Healthy horses are in fact totally CLEAR of any signs of strangles.

The cases that were confirmed as positive will be guttural washed in the coming weeks when appropriate. Meanwhile there is no risk to our healthy horses - within this time we have showed such great management for the last 4 weeks when ponies were at their sickest. It has indeed showed we can contain it.

As I say, the four that have it were all field friends.

It was confirmed that no new horses were a carrier. This means unfortunately we won’t know exactly where it has come from. Especially as none of the horses have been anywhere!

Just goes to show that sometimes no matter how much you follow the rule book IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU!
Please think about this while talking between yourselves!!

Yes we can confirm strangles is god awful in every way but what I can tell you is that the more people that keep it hidden and try to sweep it under the carpet the more horses it will effect in the long term.
At times like this the horsey world should pull together not alienate each other!!

Stats - Out of 14 horses 4 contracted strangles ….. those 4 were sharing a field!!
= 10 healthy horses 🙏

Hi all
Before I wrote this we wanted to wait until we had all the factual information present and available to us to update properly but! in true horse world fashion, that hasn’t allowed us so here we are!

We do currently have two cases of strangles. This is/was thought to have come in on a new livery that had been blood tested and quarantined! We assumed as our yard is very small with practically no horses busy out and about that this horse must have been a carrier. However! from today’s guttural swabs it’s not looking likely (still waiting on science). So!
If the swab comes back clear We can honestly say we have no idea where or how this has happened

What I can say is that we hold strict bio security infectious horses are away out the back and we are temperature testing twice daily while adhering to all vet guidelines

Many thanks

REHOMED 😁

Been asked to help -
Rescue dog Nora

💕Nora💕 is looking for a special type of home

She is a Boerbel English Mastiff x
Aged between 2-4

Nora has likely, always lived outside and quite possibly had a job as a guard dog or used as a deterrent.

For this reason we do feel having assessed Nora, that she would be better suited to an outdoor home where she can have her own space and is not put in a position where she could potentially get herself into trouble.

She could with careful introductions and separate space live with other large dogs but a no to small or medium dogs.

She is not particularly interested in livestock so could perhaps live on a smallholding, or a farm or with a gamekeeper.

Nora is fine in her kennel and also enjoys a walk
She listens and has reasonable recall. She does not pull on the lead and enjoys her food and a bone and shows no guarding to people but would likely guard her food with other dogs nearby.

Whilst Nora is loving and affectionate with me and easy to handle she is protective and I feel better suited to either a couple or a single adult home or someone with experience of large breeds.

It’s never easy having to admit a dog is better suited to the life it had before but sometimes it just is.

And whilst it’s lovely for any dog to have all the creature comforts of a
home it’s also important to make sure it’s the right fit for the dog 🐾

Little update
Tomorrow will be a week post surgery! Let’s just say I underestimated how I would be afterwards! Silly me thought after a week I would be ok to get back to it 🫣 oh how wrong I was…… I suppose it is spinal surgery after all! I’m doing ok, but! I am extremely sore and very limited in what I can actually do without it being too much! Unfortunately no matter how much I don’t like it, it is going to take time. All I can do is apologise to my customers along with saying thank you for your patience and understanding. I promise I will be back as soon as I’m physically able ❤️

I’d like to thank my customers for their understanding and patience going through the surgery and then onto my recovery. One thing I can promise is that I will be back with all the great dogs as soon as physically possible ❤️
