Here we go ….. the recent graduates of Puppy Foundation …. Woohooooo!!!

Cooper, Charlie, Oakley, Benji, Hugo, Bentley, Bruno & Willow

These puppies and their wonderful ‘pawrents’ have just been amazing.
It was very stop, start with the heat waves but we finally completed the course.

Cooper …. This little chap oozes charm and character!! So clever and picked everything up so quickly. My next poster boy in the making!!

Charlie … along with his young handler, it really does prove that patience and perseverance really does pay off. More focused and learning to calm. Brilliant.

Oakley…. This girl has a beautiful, bouncy energy! Learning to come away from distraction and focus, often being joined by the children in family which is great.

Benji…… this lovely boy would listen and watch everything I was doing, taking everything in his stride. Focused and calm. Beautiful Benji.

Hugo…. If you need cheering up, spend some time with this chap. He’s the smiliest pup, running into class every week and getting excited as soon as he saw the hall! Super quick to learn.

Bentley …. Such a fabulous little chappy. Grown soooo much over the weeks. Learning to focus and chill.

Bruno…… this boy has gained confidence week on week, everything being put into practice at home each week. He’s a happy, happy boy and learnt so much.

Willow….. full of beans (as every spaniel should be!) and beautifully clever to boot. This girl loves life and was a pleasure to have in class. We missed you in the finale

Thank you for being a part of JustPuppies Training School, keep in touch. Loved having you all in class 🐾

Anyone got a LickiMat Yoggi Pot?

Here’s a top tip …..

Make doggy ice lollies!!

Step 1

Fill with some yummy dog friendly ingredients ……
I used a variation of kibble, blueberries, apple, banana, sausage, natural yoghurt & peanut butter

Step 2

Add water level to the inner middle star.

Step 3

Pop in the freezer for a few hours until set.

Step 4

Turn upside down and squeeze sides lightly, then push bottom of pot to release your doggy ice pop

Step 5

Give to your woofie (somewhere that’s easy to clean!!).

Keeps them cool and occupied 😎🌭

Shared from a vet page …

⚠️☀️The weather is going to become extremely hot, especially over the weekend & into next week⚠️☀️
✅We strongly recommend you DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG OUTSIDE, AWAY FROM HOME during the daytime whilst the heat wave is upon us.
✅Taking your dog to a fete, or fun dog show is going to be extremely dangerous & we recommend giving them a miss.
✅Walk your dog at dawn, or dusk - but please do still take extreme care in the evenings as the air is still going to be very hot and humid.
✅If your dog is exhibiting signs of heat stroke please drench them all over in cool water ASAP and get them into the shade/indoors (ideally by a fan!) and then phone your vet for advice.
📋Recent published studies have advised that wetting an animal before transporting them to a vets resulted in better outcomes.

⭐️Remember ⭐️

👀Signs of heat stroke

🔹Panting
🔹Brick red gums
🔹Excessive salivation
🔹Restlessness
🔹Collapse
🔹Vomiting
🔹Muscle twitching & seizures

⚠️Things to avoid

❎Never cover your dog in wet towel as it will trap the heat
❎Don't let your dog play with the hose pipe or water sprinkling systems as they may ingest too much water - This can cause water toxicity.
❎If your dog is struggling to breathe do not attempt to put anything (liquid or otherwise) into their mouths. We have seen terrible advice circulating online which recommends using lemon juice to help break down saliva. This does not work and is also extremely unpleasant for the dog!

Wow! A heatwave is on its way this week into next.

Puppies in particular can be very sensitive to heat

☀️Keep them cool

Paddling Pools
Regularly replenish the water as it will heat up quickly.

If they haven’t been in water before, take it steady. Go for shallow water for a start and add some balls in there to help to introduce them gradually.

Cold drinking water - replace their water regularly or pop some ice cubes in it to keep it chilled

Damp towels - these can be a great way to keep them cool as they can lie on them

Restrict sunbathing - some dogs love to sunbathe but puppies can find it difficult to regulate their own body temperature. Don’t let them lie out in the hot sun. They can overheat very quickly.

Walkies - only walk your puppy (or any dog!) in the early morning or late evening when the temperatures have cooled down. Consider wooded areas where the residual heat of a pavement can be avoided. Or do the pavement temp check before heading out.

Stay cool 😎 and stay safe 🐾
