Evening everybody

I’ve been asked to help one of my lovely clients who unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond her control, is having to rehome her 2 Cavachon girls. Tilly who is 11 and Daisy who is 5.

I have been grooming this clients dogs since I started. They are beautiful girls and are very well looked after and loved. I’m sure you can imagine, my client is heartbroken that it has had to come to this.

They need to be rehomed together.

If you are interested or know of anyone who could be, please contact me for further information.

Thanks for reading

FOUND IT 👏
Just be on the look out for TICKS as they seem to be rife at the moment.
Make sure your dogs flea/tick treatments are up to date.

Vicky has helped me a few times with my own girls. I happily recommend her to my clients too.

What is a Holistic Vet?
First, I am a proper vet! I have my BVetMed from the Royal Veterinary College and I am an MRCVS which all vets must be to practice in the UK.
Holistic means that I take the whole pet into consideration instead of just focusing on the symptoms. I may look at a pet's lifestyle and emotional state as well as their physical condition. It also means that I have a larger 'tool box' when treating pets... acupuncture, herbal tonics, physical therapies, dietary manipulation, and behaviour modification sit alongside surgery and conventional medicines. Often a combination of treatments provides the best result.
Holistic doesn't mean avoiding conventional medicine, diagnosis, surgery, or vaccinations. I do like to use treatments backed by science... but there's a sprinkling of art and maybe a little magic too sometimes.

WHAT YOU DON'T SEE AT THE DOG GROOMERS.......
You dropped your dog off at the salon and picked them up few hours later - fluffy, fresh, and happy. But what you saw was just the tip of the iceberg.

You didn’t see your groomer arrive early to open up the salon, disinfect tools, lay out fresh towels, and check the day’s appointments. You didn’t see them look over your dog from nose to tail before even lifting a brush - checking the coat condition, skin, eyes, ears, nails, and weight.

You didn’t see the careful way they clipped around a wriggly paw, or how they paused to let your dog calm down during the bath. You didn’t notice the matting hidden beneath your dog’s topcoat, or the way the groomer worked slowly to avoid hurting the skin beneath it.

You weren’t there when they spotted a red patch of irritated skin, or a small lump you hadn’t noticed. You heard them gently mention it to you at collection - not to worry you, but because they genuinely care about your dog’s wellbeing.

And after you left, you didn’t see the clean-down , the floor swept, tables cleaned, blades oiled, messages replied to, notes written up for your next visit, and laundry on again.

All of that… for a price that’s often lower than what you’d pay for your own haircut. And your hairdresser?
They don’t have to bathe you, clip your nails, or hold you still while you try to bite the brush.

The truth is ……. dog grooming is so much more than a haircut.

It’s about health, hygiene, comfort, and trust. It’s about knowing dog anatomy, coat types, skin conditions, behaviour management, handling skills, and safe sc******ng techniques. It’s a profession that takes training, practice, and patience.
Most groomers got into this work because they love dogs. But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be paid fairly for the physical, emotional, and skilled work they do every single day.

If your dog leaves their groomer happy, healthy and looking good - it’s not by luck. It’s because you have got a good groomer.
So next time, take a moment to thank them. Leave a review.

Tip them if you can. And above all - don’t undervalue them.
They’re doing far more than just washing the dog.

🐍 Adders 🐍

With the glorious weather recently, we have seen an expected increase in calls regarding adder bites.

The adder (Vipera berus berus) is the only venomous snake native to the UK, and is also found across northern Europe. It is a protected species in the UK. Adders are most commonly, but not exclusively, found on dry, sandy heaths, sand dunes, rocky hillsides, moorlands and woodland edges. The clinical signs of an adder bite can include rapid and progressive swelling around the bite site, pain, lethargy, vomiting, bruising, bleeding and collapse.

What should you do if your pet has been bitten by an adder?
❌Do not panic.
❌Do not interfere with the bite.
❌Do not apply a tourniquet.
❌Do not attempt to touch or catch the snake.
❌Do not kill the snake – it is a protected species.
❌If practical, carry your dog to your car and go to your veterinary surgeon - do not delay seeking advice even if your pet is well as things can change quickly.

Adders are not aggressive and generally only bite when provoked. They hibernate in the winter and as a result most bites occur in the summer. Pets are frequently bitten on the leg, head or neck. If your pet has been bitten by an adder (even if you did not see the snake or are not sure what happened) – contact your vet immediately. Your vet will examine your pet to determine the location of the bite and extent of the swelling.

Veterinary professionals can call us any time on 02073 055 055 if required for assistance with managing cases of adder bites. We also hold a list of antivenom stockists across the UK. Please note that antivenom is not indicated in all cases.
