Birthday treats all round! 🎂

It’s been a busy few days of birthday celebrations, with plenty of tasty treats and enrichment for some of the animal residents! 🎈

🦏 Seto the Indian rhino turned 17 yesterday and was treated to a delicious birthday cake packed with all her favourite treats! 🍰🥕

🦁 Hercules and Hernatty, African lion brother and sister duo, also turned 7 yesterday! They were treated to some special birthday enrichment, with plenty of tasty treats to enjoy. 🥩🎁

🐾 And today, it’s Amber and Frankel’s 13th birthday! 🎉 The brother and sister pair have also been enjoying some special birthday enrichment and, of course, plenty of treats! 🥳

Our keepers have been making sure all of our birthday stars have been thoroughly spoiled and had celebrations to remember! 🧡🎂

Happy World African Wild Dog Day! 🐾

Come along with Carnivore Keeper Thea as she takes us behind the scenes for a carcass feed with the African wild dogs here at the Park! 🐕🦴

We actively encourage natural behaviours, and carcass feeds provide the wild dogs with enrichment that is both physically and mentally stimulating, allowing them to use their natural instincts and behaviours. 🌿

Sadly, African wild dogs are still classed as 'Endangered' by the IUCN, with wild populations facing threats including habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict and disease.

By learning more about these incredible animals, we can help shine a light on the importance of protecting them in the wild. 🌍🧡

Have you spotted the ellipsen waterbuck on the Safari Drive? 👀 The easiest way to identify them is by looking from behind… 🤭

Their most recognisable feature is the distinctive white ring around their rump, which helps them stand out from other antelope species.

Ellipsen waterbuck have a shaggy brown-grey coat with a slightly oily texture, which helps keep them dry, as they spend much of their time in grasslands close to water and woodland areas.

Naturally found across parts of Eastern and Southern Africa, these impressive antelope are well adapted to life in wooded savannah habitats.

Ellipsen waterbuck are currently classed as 'Least Concern' by the IUCN, but conservation efforts including protecting the habitats they rely on, remains incredibly important for ensuring their future.

Next time you’re on the Safari Drive, keep an eye out for that famous white “ring”! 🦌✨
