With the extremely warm weather we’re currently experiencing, this is what a lot of our morning/lunchtime group walks look like.
(Especially for the dogs that can’t swim/aren’t fans of the water)
This video was taken a couple of weeks ago, around 12:30pm; when the temperature outside was about 23’c.
We chose a nice shaded location and as you can see, none of these dogs are struggling in the heat. This spot is approximately 2 minutes walk from where we park the van.
All the dogs in this video love nothing more than a chase around or a game of ball, but when the temperature increases, these kind of activities are no longer appropriate; for the sake of the dogs welfare.
Instead of being out in the fields providing physical exercise like usual, plenty of mental stimulation is offered.
The simple concept of throwing a few treats amongst the leaves, provides a mentally stimulating and rewarding experience for the dogs, It encourages them to use their natural instincts to forage and keeps them engaged.
The saying is; 20 minutes of sniffing can equate to around 1 hour of physical exercise for a dog, this tires them out just like physical exercise would, without the dangers of heatstroke.
As always, my main goal & priority is to keep your dogs safe in the warmer weather but equally provide them with the best time appropriately😍
(Currently, dogs that need to have use of the enclosured dog fields/cant swim are walked in the morning/into the early afternoon and dogs that can swim are walked in the afternoon as it’s easier to keep them cooler)
