Today’s dramatic update from Central Horse Retirement…

Some of the horses have been moved to different fields…

You would think we had personally flown them to the Maldives. 🤦‍♀️🐴

Much galloping.
Much squealing.
Several questionable rodeo auditions from horses aged 27+.

Within approximately 11 minutes:
• the grass was apparently greener
• the water tasted better
• and everyone became 4 years old again

Honestly, watching retired horses get excited over a change of scenery never gets old ❤️

🌿 Dr Green has finally arrived… and it shows 🌿

The fields are coming through beautifully now, and the difference in the horses speaks for itself.

Full bellies, relaxed movement, shining coats — exactly how retirement should look.

At CHRL, this is never by chance. It’s the result of careful field management, selecting the right grazing source for each horse’s type and condition, and ensuring the right land management as the seasons change. Good grass isn’t just about growth — it’s about balance, timing, and understanding individual needs.

Days like this are a quiet reminder of why we do what we do.

A field full of content, comfortable horses… exactly as it should be. 🤍

We couldn’t resist sharing these… just look at them 😍

The horses are looking absolutely incredible — healthy, relaxed, and truly thriving. This is exactly what we strive to achieve.. calm, content, and lovingly cared for every single day.

It’s moments like this that remind us why we do what we do.

What do you think? 💚

A little glimpse into daily life here at Central Horse Retirement Ltd 🐴

We know we’ve been a little quiet on here recently, and we truly appreciate your patience — as always, our time and focus remains where it matters most… with the horses.

No rush. No pressure. Just horses doing what horses should do — grazing peacefully, moving freely, and enjoying the quiet companionship of their herd.

As the grass continues to come through, we’re seeing that lovely seasonal transition… lighter days, relaxed routines, and content horses settling into their natural rhythm.

Our open barn and turnout system allows every horse the freedom to choose — whether that’s shelter, space, or simply standing quietly with friends. It’s a simple approach, but one that consistently delivers exactly what retirement should be: calm, consistent, and stress-free.

Behind the scenes, nothing changes. Care remains meticulous, routines stay consistent, and every horse is monitored closely to ensure they continue to thrive.

This is what retirement looks like when it’s done properly.

In the deep mid-winter,
when the ground is iron hard,
Water buckets freeze solid,
and the dark comes far too fast.

Steam rises from warm nostrils,
rugged backs beneath the stars,
Hands numb through soggy gloves,
mud somehow everywhere ... not just the yard.

The arena is a mirror,
the lanes a test of nerve,
You question all your life choices
as you trudge out “just to check” (again).

The horses stand unmoved by it all.
Unbothered.
Fed.
Watching you like this is perfectly normal behaviour.

They do not mark the days.
They only know:

hay arrives

water matters

you came back

In the deep mid-winter,
there are no rosettes,
summer dreams that feel very far away,
no pressure to progress.

Just care.
Consistency.
Showing up when it’s cold and thankless and quiet.

And somehow
this is where the bond deepens.

In frozen mornings and last checks at night.
In shared breath in the dark.
In choosing them, again and again,
when no one is watching.

This is not the glamorous season.
This is the faithful one.

In the deep mid-winter,
love looks like hay,
and warmth,
and turning the lights off knowing
they are safe.

Happy Friday!
All horses are warm with layers on and lots of food so please don't worry.🌡️❤️
If you're planning on coming down, please be careful on the roads as it's going to be a very cold one. But carrots would be massively appreciated in this cold spell!
Have a lovely weekend all ❤️
