Meet Stanley an 8 month old Lakeland Terrier pup who has just had his first handstrip. A very English Terrier, records of Lakeland Terriers go back to the early 1800's and they are known for their superb hunting ability. When they were first exhibited in the show ring in about 1880 they were judged not on their looks but on their ability to hunt ; mainly otters. Stories of the courage of the Lakeland Terrier are plentiful but perhaps the most popular is that of a Lakeland belonging to Lord Lonsdale who in 1871 crawled 23 feet under ground in persuit of an otter. Extensive rock blasting was necessary to extricate the little dog who was taken out 3 days later, still in fine fettle having.caught the otter!
Like most Lakelands today, it is unlikely Stanley is going to need to work for his keep; instead he shows promise as a delightful, fun loving companion whom we have enjoyed the pleasure of grooming.
