Last Monday, we shared findings from Petplan about rabbit owners regretting adopting rabbits during lockdown because they underestimated the cost and care rabbits actually need.
If you are thinking of adopting pet rabbits, there’s a few things you need to know first:
1. Rabbits need to be kept in neutered pairs, so you should never just adopt one.
2. Rabbits can live up to 10 years. Are you ready for that commitment?
3. You might be ready for the commitment, but are you prepared to pay for it? Rabbits can cost up to £10,000 over their lifetime! Add another one or two rabbits to the mix and you’re not just looking at a bigger hutch, you’re looking at a re-mortgage!!!
4. Speaking of which…Rabbits are not suitable children’s pets that you can leave at the bottom of the garden in a hutch when the kids go back to school in September. If you thought that this was okay to do, then rabbits are not the pet for you.
Rabbits are not easy first-time pets like people assume, they require a lot of special care and attention.
