If you see a dog in a car showing signs of heatstroke, call 999 immediately!!

‼️Heatstroke is a life-threatening‼️

Before help arrives, try to find the owner, assess the dog's condition, and move the dog to a cool, shaded area as soon as you can safely get them out.

Spot the Signs, look for these red flags:

🚩 Heavy panting and noisy breathing
🚩 Drooling heavily
🚩 Red gums or tongue
🚩 Confusion, unsteadiness, or collapsing

Steps to Cool Them Down:

If you can safely remove the dog, follow these first-aid steps:

🚩 Move to shade: Get the dog out of the hot vehicle and out of direct sunlight.
🚩 Use room-temperature water: Pour small amounts of lukewarm or cool water over the dog. Never use ice or freezing water, as this can cause their blood vessels to shrink and make the heatstroke worse.
🚩 Use a fan or breeze: Place the dog in front of a fan or open air conditioning.
🚩 Offer a drink: Let the dog drink small amounts of fresh, cool water.
🚩 Call a vet: Once you begin cooling them, call a local vet to tell them you are on your way.

🚙 Can You Break the Window?Breaking into a vehicle is criminal damage in the UK. If you break the window, you must be prepared to defend your actions in court.

🚨 Always dial 999 first and ask the Police for advice.
🚨 Take photos or videos of the dog’s condition, if you can get someone to put the weather app on their phone and take a picture of it and the car with the dog as evidence.
🚨 Note the vehicle's registration number.
🚨 Try to identify any witnesses who can confirm the dog was in distress.

You may need these as evidence to defend your actions in court to justify breaking the window.

Hopefully we are never going to have to be in this situation!

Stop scrolling for a second if you have a dog here in Basildon! 👇☀️

Do you know the difference between a normal hot weather forecast and a dog walker's forecast? 🌡️🐾

When most people see a heatwave coming, they think of exciting things like:
🍺 Heading to a beer garden?
🍗 Throwing a BBQ?
🏖️ Relaxing on a sun lounger?
But when we see that exact same forecast, our brains go into total puzzle-solving mode! We aren't thinking about a tan—we're thinking:
Which walks do I need to move? Where is the absolute best shade and the coolest route? Do I have enough extra water packed? What appointments need a fun, indoor enrichment visit instead? 🗺️⏰💧

People often say to me, "You're so lucky to be out all day in this gorgeous weather!" ☀️
In reality, it means constantly checking temperatures, adapting plans on the fly, and doing everything possible to keep your fur-babies safe without putting them at risk—even when it means reduced hours or a loss of income for our small business.

At K9 Krew & Friends, your dog’s welfare will always come first. During this terrible heat, walks might be shortened, moved to a cooler time, or replaced with a lovely drop-in enrichment visit to keep them happy and stimulated without the danger of heatstroke. 🐕❤️

This is also one of the reasons we only provide 1 to 1 dog walks, like this you don’t need to deal with a cancelled group walk and a furry friend not being seen to all day! 😔

Quick Heatwave Reminders for Pet Parents 🚨☀️

With the temperatures soaring again, here are a few quick, easy ways to keep your pets safe and comfortable:

❄️ Chilled Meals: Store their food or treat pouches in the fridge for a refreshing, cooling breakfast or dinner. It helps lower their core temperature and makes mealtime a bit more enticing in the heat!

💧 Water Stations: Pop a few ice cubes in their water bowl, and set up a couple of extra water stations around the house in shaded areas.

🐾 The Five-Second Rule: If the pavement is too hot for the back of your hand to comfortably hold for five seconds, it’s far too hot for their paws! Stick to early morning or late evening strolls.

Got a dog walker? Ask them to do a visit instead & just pop them out to the grass for a quick p*e. They can play with them indoors instead, refresh their water, etc.
