It's been hot today so thought I'd make some new show number clips, I have the 3 we originally had made up but took 5 beast out the other day and realised we need more 🙈 Checked eBay and my originals are now 6 years old! They have done well but smell of show wax now! I pulled out the bag of ribbons, clips and keepers that I had just about forgotten about and got my sewing kit out!
Pink for the commercials, brown and cream for the bull and the shorthorn heifers have this lovely red, cream and gold 😍

Yesterday we attended Woodhall Spa Country Show with the cattle and it was also the first outing this year for the sheep.
The sheep started the day with the commercial classes, the Tup (King) won his class and the ewe won hers. The Gimmers came 3rd and 6th and the ewe lamb also came 3rd. We entered a group of 3 with the tup, ewe and gimmer and they won their class. In the Championship we took Reserve Champion with the ewe. She started her showing career as a lamb in 2022 when she took champion pair of lambs at the Lincolnshire show. She has been in the winning pair of gimmers at the same show and has been a successful ewe. The Continental sheep were next and we are not taking many out this year, the Rouge ewe came 2nd.
In the cattle we had the Commercials first, Mr Desmond won his class and Miss Diamond came 2nd in hers. The Commercial championship went to a lovely blue heifer and the reserve was the 2nd place from that class. That meant the trophy for the best animal of the opposite s*x to the champion was still up for grabs and Mr Desmond was tapped out as the best bullock. He was so very tired after all this and went straight to sleep after all the attention.
The Beef Shorthorns were next and Wish won the maiden heifer class with Wildrose taking 2nd. They were also 2nd in the pairs.
That left the young handlers to go. Mr Desmond had decided he very much liked having a nap after his earlier success and tried to have a lie down in the ring with Lewis Mcgee 🙈🤣
Miss Diamond was on loan to the same young handler as last week and this time she won her class. Wish was also back out with her young handler from last week and she also won her class. That meant our 2 Heifers in the championship and they took Champion and Reserve between them. Very well behaved and they have been booked up for future shows 😬
All home after a long day and we washed off the cattle and let them dry in the sun before they had tea and went straight to bed.
Next show will be Lincolnshire 😀

First show of the season yesterday at Nottinghamshire County Show. First time out for a most of them so we were expecting some spice. But they all behaved impeccably!
Mr Desmond got a 3rd and Miss Diamond wasn't placed in a large split but she did go on to help a young handler come 2nd later on. Mr D got a 4th with his young handler.

Buster came out a bit stiff after the journey and got a 2nd and Reserve Male Champion.
North Rosebud Wildrose came 3rd and the star of the day was Norworth Miss Ramsden Wish who won the AON maiden heifer class, was Junior Champion and then went on to take Reserve Native Champion. She decided she wasn't finished there and helped her young handler win her class and then take the championship.
We managed to load up just as the heavens opened, everyone had a bath when we got home and I think they had their tea and then went straight to bed. Week off and then it's Woodhall Spa next weekend.

Also a massive congratulations to Alisha Lack taking the Native Champion with her lovely Longhorn heifer.
