***looking for a forever home** Ace is the litter-mate to our keeper “Angel” he is a big softy but keen to learn and would be a fantastic working dog! He is two years old and intact. Message for more details. Ace would suit an experienced dog owner who spends lots of time outdoors and enjoys cuddles and the laughs and challenges a complex breed can bring. Catahoulas like Ace don’t come up often, he is a really lovely dog and will be the best companion for the right home.

Another amazing training session with today and walking through . For people wondering why Angel is training... Angel is very aroused by other dogs... she hasn’t ever bitten another dog but she reacts to them as a Catahoula would to an animal they are baying with barking and aggressive behaviour. This is partly my fault as she has not been socialised enough and partly due to her instincts as a strong working breed... I would say catahoulas are prone to this behaviour but not consistently socialising them and helping them to learn what other dogs mean will make them more likely to resort to inherent behaviour during exciting/stressful times. We have an 11acre small holding where the dogs are walked and roam around so instances where they have met other dogs out and on a lead have not been many. My daily routine has changed over the last months and I am out in the forest a lot more. It is my goal to get Angel to a stage where she accepts other dogs out on a walk and can come running with me... she is two years old so this would have been far easier to do when she was a pup and I bred her so I have no excuses 🙄 but it is also great fun watching her learn and to learn more about her and her behaviour.

New forests Silver fox “silver” for those who think we breed “pretty” dogs that aren’t fit for working purpose... I am going to try and focus a little more on our offspring’s different “jobs” instead of how ridiculously good looking they are. I am always happy to answer questions about our dogs and the dogs we have bred so feel free to comment. This is Brewski and Kraken’s daughter (Angel’s litter-mate from our “Marvel” litter). She is owned by Tina at in Germany where she has had extensive scent discrimination training and helps to protect the poultry on their farm. She recently helped to retrieve a duck (unharmed 😂) that had become stranded on a small island in their lake. She will one day go on to have her own pups and I am sure they will also be beautiful and have a fantastic work-ethic.

Today Angel broke up a c**k fight! I’m so proud of her! Unfortunately this was all I captured of it 🤣 our c**kerels were fighting so I took Angel over and she stood between them, they moved around her and continued so she got back in the middle and ushered one away, she followed him until things had settled and then came back to me proud as punch! This shows a level of self-control that she now possesses as an adult and proves that the work we have been doing with is not only helping with socialisation but with other aspects of making choices and her levels of arousal. The flapping could easily trigger a young Catahoula to behave excitedly... she kept calm, looking to me and figured it all out for herself! Clever girl

A game of “find it” attracted some friends today! A few people have asked whether Catahoulas can be trusted around chickens. We had one incident when Angel was around 9months old where she caught one. It took a couple of months after that for her to stop getting excited around them when they started flapping but we haven’t had a situation like that since and we have around 25 chickens (along with other poultry and livestock) free-ranging with our dogs most of the day. Angel loves spending her time herding them and Brewski is cool as cucumber... he just wants squirrels and foxes 🦊

New Forests Wolverine “Walter”. If he had a year book it would probably say “most likely to cause a nervous breakdown” under his picture but the update I got today has made me feel so happy... two years of hard work and his owner is finally seeing it pay off 🤣. He is proof that catahoulas require continued training but also that, given the time and dedication, they will thrive, be happy and give you so much in return :)
