she won't be able to come to work any longer, but she's back home with her family and that's all that really matters

*MUZZLE TRAINING*

as the now owner of 3 "typed" banned breeds, here's your reminder to muzzle train your dogs!

whether you've got a dog that could meet any type of banned breed or not, a muzzle is in my opinion an essential part of training.

for example;

•in an emergency, a vet trip can be extremely stressful, being prepared to utilise a muzzle can keep everyone safe and a little less stressed.

•a muzzle can be ideal while traveling, preventing dogs from potentially ingesting anything unknown or harmful!

•to stay safe around other dogs, if you've got a new introduction planned, a muzzle can add that extra layer of safety and peace of mind

•for reactivity, whether you think your dog is a bite risk or not, a muzzle adds that security and gives confidence that even under stress, your dog cannot become a danger or redirect and cause injury.

some of you will have met Sage my rescue pup, and will be aware that she has this week been deemed to be "pit bull type".

as much as this is a scenario I never wanted to be in, the fact that she is already muzzle trained means she can easily integrate back into life with the gang with no additional work involved, just a fancy new accessory meaning no time exploring is lost.

❤️ South Wales Police ❤️

Yesterday we were alerted to a dog who had been seized by South Wales Police. We rang the Dog Legislation Officer for the force who confirmed she is a Pit Bull type dog.

We asked if the Interim Exemption Scheme would be possible and are delighted that this has been agreed by the DLO. The dog will be neutered next week and returned home to wait for a court date.

The owner was hoping to challenge type, the DNA test she had shows she's predominantly American Staffordshire Terrier, whilst not a banned breed these are the show line of the original American Pit Bull Terrier.
When an Amstaff is slim like this dog they then fall into the category of Pit Bull type.

The Interim Exemption Scheme is only granted when an owner accepts their dog is a banned breed. If a challenge was made then the would be held in police approved kennels until a court decided the outcome.

We understand the worry and confusion at having a dog seized and typed but when a dog meets as much of the conformation standards as this dog it would be remiss of us to spend public donations on the expensive process of challenging type.

Our thanks to South Wales Police for working with us and allowing the Interim Exemption Scheme meaning the dog will be home again as quickly as possible. The Dog Legislation Officer was not aware of the owners details until we contacted them, the owner supplied the contact details and address to us so this could be arranged.
