I spent just 10 minutes recording birdsong down at the shepherd’s hut this morning and was amazed by the results.

The app identified 15 different species, including all of these wonderful birds, plus a soaring buzzard and a couple of red kites overhead!

It’s moments like this that remind me just how special this little corner of south-west Scotland is. From dawn choruses to birds of prey circling above, the wildlife here is simply incredible. Whether you’re a keen birdwatcher, nature lover, photographer, or just someone who enjoys a peaceful morning coffee with a view, you’ll find plenty to enjoy.

We are obviously not near the sea here but I still love this 💚

Is this the perfect spot to park up and take a wee break?

This one is for all the local farmers who were still razzing up and down the street at midnight, presumably trying to finish the silage before it rains again... hopefully you'll get time today to take a break after working so hard 🚜☕️

PS: My husband pointed out that I drew a Massey Ferguson and everyone round here has another sort 😉 but I'm from Coventry so you get red tractor whether you like it or not 🤣... I think it's called artistic license!

What makes Scotland so green?

Rain, of course!

While the rest of the world chases sunshine, we’re out here perfecting our “slightly damp but still smiling” look.

Our shepherd’s hut is the perfect place to dry off, pop the kettle on, and admire the view while pretending this weather is all part of the authentic Scottish experience.

Because let’s be honest, if we waited for perfect weather, we’d never leave the house!

One of the best things about hosting guests in our shepherd’s hut is reading the comments they leave in our guest book, and last night’s guests absolutely nailed it:
