☀️ SUMMER IS HERE ☀️

The sun is out, the grass is green, most of us are at home enjoying the ☀️

Please be aware.. at these temperatures dogs, cats and other animals (especially outdoor hutched animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs) can be at risk of heat stroke.

☀️ please prevent walking dogs in the midday sun and walk in the mornings and evenings instead.
😎 avoid strenuous exercise like chasing balls, frisbee’s and excess running.
☀️ if your dog is panting excessively or lethargic cool him/her off by wrapping cool wet towels around the paws and encourage drinking. Make sure to remove him/her from the sun and monitor closely.. if excess drooling, vomiting or severe agitation occurs call a vets immediately.
😎 make sure animal hutches are out of direct sunlight and if possible move them into a shaded area. Providing a marble tile or alternatively a bottle of frozen water to lie against can help cool small animals down.
☀️ dogs with shorter snouts such as bull breeds, Lhasa’s/ shih tzu’s, cavalier and King Charles spaniels are all more prone to heat stroke as are dogs with very long dense coats as keeping cool is more difficult... be extra vigilant with these breeds and avoid exercise and activity where possible.

Travel Advice

It’s summertime, and we know this is a popular time of year for holidays abroad. Many of you will be looking to bring the whole family along for the adventure – including your furry friends!

If you are planning to travel internationally with your pet, please let us know as early as possible to ensure all travel requirements can be met. We kindly request at least 3 months’ notice for international travel paperwork, as some requirements can take time to complete.

Please be aware that not all veterinarians are qualified to certify pets for international travel. Travel documentation must be completed by an Official Veterinarian (OV), and availability can be limited.

For further information or to discuss your travel plans, please contact Reception, who will be happy to assist.

PET PASSPORT UPDATE

From 22nd April the rules are changing regarding the use of EU issued pet passports. Owners that currently living in the UK and have EU passports for their pets to travel to the EU will no longer be able to use these passports.

The update from APHA is that an owner must reside in the EU to be able to use an EU passport therefore making all, current EU passports for animals living in the UK invalid from 22nd April.

The new guidance states that for any future travel you will instead require an animal health certificate.

We apologise for the short notice, this information has only recently been passed to Vets, and we do our best to help support our clients through this change.

As with all travel please let us know as soon as you can as our Vets need time to organise all the necessary documentation and for any vaccination's, wormers etc to be given.
