🐾 Meet the team - staff pets 🐾

Miss Marples, is a 15year old Sulcata or African Spurred Tortoise, who enjoys exploring the garden, munching on weeds and soaking up the sunshine!

Sulcata tortoises are the third-largest tortoise species in the world, native to the dry grasslands and deserts of northern Africa. They are known for their impressive size, strong personalities, and huge appetites for grasses and leafy plants.

A few fun facts about Sulcatas:
🐢 They can grow to weigh over 45 kg (100 lbs).
🌱 They are strict herbivores and thrive on a high-fibre diet.
☀️ They need access to UVB lighting and appropriate temperatures to stay healthy.
🏡 They require plenty of space, as they can outgrow most indoor enclosures.

While Sulcata tortoises can make fascinating companions, they are a long-term commitment and have very specific husbandry requirements.

🌡️🐾 Heat Stroke Can Be Life-Threatening for Pets 🐾🌡️

As temperatures rise, dogs and cats can quickly become dangerously overheated.

⚠️ Signs of heat stroke include:
• Excessive panting or difficulty breathing
• Drooling more than usual
• Bright red or pale gums
• Lethargy, weakness, or collapse
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Confusion, wobbliness, or seizures

If you suspect heat stroke:
✅ Move your pet to a cool, shaded area immediately
✅ Offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water
✅ Wet their body with cool water, focusing on the paws, belly, and neck
✅ Use a fan if available
✅ Contact your vets straight away

🐕 Walk dogs during the cooler parts of the day
🏠 Ensure pets have access to shade and fresh water
🚗 Never leave pets in a parked vehicle
🐾 Keep exercise light during hot weather
