🐾🌿 Tick & Flea Season Is Here 🌿🐾

With warmer weather, ticks & fleas are becoming much more active. They can be picked up in long grass, woodland walks, parks, gardens, and from other animals. 🐶

⚠️ Watch out for:
• Scratching or biting
• Red, irritated skin
• Flea dirt in the coat
• Ticks attached to the skin

🛡️ Prevention is key:
✔️ Regular flea & tick treatments
✔️ Check coats after walks
✔️ Wash bedding regularly
✔️ Keep up with regular grooming appointments

If you find a tick or fleas, treat them quickly and contact your vet for advice if needed. 💚

✨ Why Does My Cocker Spaniel’s Coat Go Fluffy After Being Spayed or Neutered? ✂️🐾

One of the most common questions I get from Cocker Spaniel owners is:
“Why has my dog’s coat suddenly become so fluffy or difficult to manage?”

After being spayed or neutered, many Cockers go through a coat change. Hormonal changes can affect the texture and growth cycle of the coat, causing it to become:

🐶 Softer and fluffier
🐶 Thicker and woollier
🐶 More prone to matting
🐶 Harder to brush through
🐶 Faster growing in some areas

This happens because hormones play a big role in maintaining the natural texture of the coat. Once those hormone levels change, the coat often loses that smoother, flat finish and starts producing more undercoat instead.

Every dog is different — some only change slightly, while others develop a very full coat like Buttons here.

✨ The good news? Regular grooming makes a HUGE difference.

Labradors may have short coats, but they actually shed heavily all year round, with two major coat blows usually happening in spring and autumn. During these seasonal sheds, their undercoat comes out in handfuls and without regular grooming, that loose coat ends up all over your house instead! 🫣

Regular grooming for short haired is so important because it helps to:

✅ Remove dead hair and loose undercoat
✅ Reduce shedding around the house
✅ Keep the skin healthy and breathable
✅ Distribute natural oils through the coat for that healthy shine ✨
✅ Prevent compacted undercoat, which can cause discomfort and overheating
