🪱🐑 Nematodirus poses a significant risk for grazing lambs. 🪱🐑
We have seen dung samples test positive for nematodirus eggs this week on our in house Ovacyte machine.
As we can see from the SCOPS forecast the nematodirus hatch is peaking in our area.
https://www.scops.org.uk/forecasts/nematodirus-forecast/
What this means?
Lambs between 6 and 12 weeks of age grazing pasture that carried lambs last spring are most at risk.
Co- infection with cocci means clinical signs are seen at lower worm burdens.
What are the signs?
Scour, rapid weight loss and high levels of mortality
Treatment
For at risk lambs a white (1-BZ) drench is advised.
It is advised that a pooled faecal worm egg count is carried out 10-14 days post treatment to assess efficacy.
