Robin and Donna are very excited to be attending the worlds largest dog show, Crufts again this year from the 9th-12th March!

Crufts is always a fantastic occasion, with thousands of dogs competing for the world-class title of Crufts Best in Show, fantastic displays, and over five hundred stands full of special show offers and exciting products for dogs and owners alike!

Robin started training his Airedale terrier, Cassie, in a dog club, before becoming an instructor. He was later part of the Northern Ireland Obedience Team and competed in Crufts with his Airedale terrier Poppy!

Recently Guinness World Records declared a dog named Bobi who is a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo (A breed known for protecting livestock) both the world's oldest living dog, and the world's oldest dog! Bobi lives in Portugal so we may not have the gorgeous Portuguese climate and food, but we can show our dogs as much love as possible!

It goes to show how important training your dog is from a young age and continuing training it as you never know how long they are going to live! Whatever age your dog currently is we have something for every age and behavioural need at Robin Bates Dog Training.

We’re excited to share that we will be hosting a Puppy talk next week on the 3rd March from 19:30-21:00 at the Gone to the Dogs premises (77 Main St, Ballyclare BT39 9AA)

Getting a puppy is an exciting time, but it is also important to make sure that you are doing the right things at the early stages to ensure your puppy grows and develops into a happy and healthy dog. This talk will cover all the most important things to be aware of including training exercises and tips to give your puppy all the mental stimulation they need.

The talk will be led by our trainer Robin who has been training puppies and dogs for over 20 years and is considered a leading expert in dog behaviour and training.

He will share his experiences and discuss the joys of having a puppy including

life stages of a puppy

preparing for your new puppy

how to train and understand their thought processes

how to overcome puppy problems and teach them lifelong skills.

This event is completely free to attend, so it’s not one to be missed!

This event is aimed at humans, so there is no need to bring your dog! However, if you can’t leave your dog for whatever reason, you are welcome to bring them along!

Are you preparing to take your furry friend for a visit to the vet?

Muzzle training your dog can help with handling, especially at places like the vet's.

Dogs can react aggressively at the vets if they are scared or in pain, so it's a good idea to practice handling them or muzzle training as an exercise. This way, they're likely to be more relaxed for routine visits, and you are prepared in case of an emergency.

With my dog Cooper having damaged his ligaments, he will be having several surgeries, medication, and lots of trips to the vet, so we've been incorporating muzzle training into our routine.

Puppy training and socialisation classes -
