Ballachulish Bed & Biscuits

Ballachulish Bed & Biscuits A perfect alternative to kennels. Fully licensed and fully insured. Ballachulish Bed & Biscuits is an exclusive, luxury home boarding service for your dog.

My name is Sonja, and I am fully licensed by The Highland Council and fully insured. I will only ever board two dogs at any one time, so whilst you enjoy your holiday, you can rest easy knowing your dog will be happy and loved as they live alongside me in my home with my own dog, Sorrell. I have a lovely spacious house in the village of Ballachulish, a secure garden and, of course, the best of the

outdoors on my doorstep for your dog’s daily enrichment. A little bit more about me...

I relocated to the Highlands from London in August 2022, where I successfully ran my dog care service, Dogknows Central South London, for five years. Although I have relocated, I still run the business with the help of my trusted staff and I oversee operations. Please feel free to check out our 5-star reviews on Google.

The services offered by Dogknows are primarily dog walking and puppy training. I have a wealth of experience with different breeds ranging from the Chihuahua to the Husky, and I am knowledgeable and confident in handling a variety of behaviours and personalities that our amazing canine friends bring. For the past 5 years, my fascination with dog language and behaviour has grown considerably, and over time I have helped some of my clients overcome some of their own dog's challenging behaviours with great success and something I am very proud of. I no longer look at dogs as just a pet or family members, they are so much more, and every day they continue to be great teachers to me, with my own dog being no exception. At the beginning of 2023, I was invited to join the committee of the Lochaber and District Canine Society (LDCS), which I graciously accepted and am enjoying being part of a team of wonderful people who promote responsible dog ownership by teaching owners to train their dogs for everyday life situations. I absolutely adore working with dogs, and it has been a life-long dream to do so surrounded by mountains and the big skies which the beautiful Highlands of Scotland bring. Wallets & Purses

💚 All I wanted was a kiss in return for her toy....it's not asking too much is it?

27/04/2026

💚 We met Ben today for his Meet & Greet - a handsome bearded/border collie cross.

🐶 Ben had a tricky start in life but was rehomed by his wonderful pet parents at 10 months old.

💚 He is now 8 years old and very settled in his lovely life. He still shows clear signs of what he wants and what he doesn't so we listen to his signals as always.

🐶 Not hugely into people but we're pro's at this as Sorrell has taught me all I need to know in that department.

💚 A short stroll showed me that Ben, although happy enough for a walk, was keen to get back to the house where his human was last seen.

🐶 Although relaxed enough to lay down in the garden, he wasn't at all keen to come into the house to interact with me or Sorrell - and that is totally fine and very common.

💚 The gate was his focus which he was right to do because his human soon came back for him at which he was delighted with.

🐶 This is why our complimentary Meet & Greets are so important for the dog. Not so much for us at all as we've never turned anyone away.

💚 We're confident when Ben returns for his longer stay, he'll be a little more relaxed with us.

💚 .....and when Star isn't away losing her mind over sheep....

🐶 She's being a really good girl and using nature's playground as intended.

💚 The rope swing provides much hilarity in all sorts of ways...Star found her own amusement with this one.

🐶 Sorrell thought she'd improve her 360 on the quarter pipe and finished nicely.

💚 Everyone was thrilled with water shenanigans, as a big rock kept Star busy for some time.

🐶 All in all, a fabulously sunny afternoon mess about.

16/04/2026

💚 Our shining Star arrived this morning and once she said hello to Sorrell and Bear, we had only one thing on our minds.

🐶 It started off being a lovely fun walk with everyone engaged and minding our own business and then I swear a train conductor shouted...all change please!!!

💚 Alas it wasn't a train conductor, it was two sheep.

🐶 Bear lost his mind first and ran over to them...the sheep ran and all three were quickly out of my sight.

💚 During this time I'd managed to convince Star to focus on me, popped her on a lead and now let's go and see how Bear is getting on.

🐶 On cue, he just arrived as proud as punch to which I took it to mean, the sheep had gone and we can all carry on as before. And so we did.

💚 Hindsight....yeah....we've had brief flings with it over the years haven't we. I probably shouldn't have released Star from her lead quite so soon....

🐶 The sheep had indeed fled far and out of sight....but Star obviously thought not far enough so off she went and all I could do was watch as she got smaller and smaller - now with Bear firmly on a lead.

💚 Don't worry, no horror show occurred. Long story short...one sheep stopped and faced Star. She was so confused she looked over to me for explanations. Since she was about 60/70 meters away it was difficult so I just called and called her....until eventually she started to come back.

🐶 It was a small kerfuffle for a while to be honest - unexpected sheep lead to everyone losing their mind momentarily, me included.
But not Sorrell. Off lead, calm, quietly analysing and overseeing proceedings, probably eye‑rolling at the rest of us.

💚 I didn't even have to speak to Sorrell the whole time. Once we were all back together, she simply led us back up like a professional with a job to do, after we’d been forced down a route no two‑legged human should ever have to take.

🐶 A game of stones in the water cooled everyone down afterwards, it was like no one even knew what a sheep was.

💚 Thankfully, no one, not even the sheep, seemed particularly stressed by the whole situation. It'll only be me that it sticks with for a few days no doubt...

💚 I'll let you into a little secret.....

🐶 If I was a dog, I'd definitely be wanting to stay with Ballachulish Bed & Biscuits - have you seen the nonsense we get up to?

💚 A gorgeous sunny morning said let's go wild - an easy fix in the Highlands I know.

🐶 We also wanted minimal people and dogs...no offence like...

💚 We saw one person with a dog....so....not too bad.

🐶 Our gorgeous Bear arrived this morning and beautiful Luna joined us for a some hours which everyone was extremely happy about.

💚 Another 2 x collie, 1 x labrador. It's a perfect th*****me if I do say so myself.

🐶 Thank you to Bear, Luna and Sorrell who made my 'working' day an absolute joy...I'd change nothing.

14/04/2026

💚 We had Sorrell's friend Luna join us for a walk recently who made a fabulous addition to the collie pairing.

🐶 Pickle loves a stick...as does Luna...so our outing fast became a stick-off!

💚 An Tor is a great walk full of woods, water, slopes to slip down and a big ole rock to....well, show off how good we can be.

🐶 High energy was in abundance with so much fun to be had, we nearly didn't fit it all in!

💚 Luna and Pickle enjoyed each others company very much with their mutual stick appreciation.

🐶 In fact, all three dogs were fantastic. No one lost their minds even when faced with a large group of tourists at the rock. All three waited so nicely whilst the group slowly descended...which made me a very proud dog lady.

💚 My little outings with Toby just got better and better.

🐶 I loved watching his happy fluffy bottom toddle off in the distance.

💚 He'd frequently stop and check I wasn't too far behind. It's not that easy keeping up with a 13 year old collie who's got nature to sniff and pathways to explore.

🐶 It was an absolute joy having Toby stay with us again. We definitely got to see and learn and whole new side to him with our solo walks and I felt he was much happier and relaxed as a result.

💚 Thank you Toby, gorgeous happy boy.

12/04/2026

💚 When the sun shines in Glencoe and you've got a couple of keen border collies...

🐶 Both know this route well and were totally gorgeous at waiting for me, showing me the way (in case I'd forgotten) and genuinely checking I was ok.

💚 We left at early doors so were lucky enough to not see a soul. The perfect kind of walk in the glen.

🐶 A full breakfast at our viewpoint of boiled egg and beef spleen keeping up the amazing strength of this super fit pair.

💚 Find what your passion is, find what you're good at...then do that every day...

11/04/2026

🐶 Last time this gorgeous old boy Toby stayed with us, he was so fixated on Sorrell on our walks that he ran himself ragged and had rather sore legs as a result.

💚 Always learning from the worlds greatest teachers (our dogs in case you're wondering), this time we agreed we'd walk Toby solo...and it's worked a treat.

🐶 At 13 years old, his engagement and interactions with me is so cute and playful, he is a completely different dog. He is a lot happier, exploring, sniffing and peeing as well he should - something he hardly ever did previously.

💚 We've got a few more days together so I'm definitely looking forward to getting to know this adorable border collie all over again.

🐶 His eyes....oh my days!

10/04/2026

🐶 It's been a long time since Pickle and Sorrell have spent time together.

💚 They've slotted back into each others company without a fluff and have been a joy to walk together, one collie in front of the other.

🐶 A stroll through Glencoe Lochan meant we got to hug the tree and although Pickle wasn't quite sure what we were up to, he gave it good go.

💚 Where as An Torr is great for practicing for the World Skimming Championships - border collies make great tossmasters!

🐶 Sorrell rarely sleeps by other dogs but has often just popped herself next to Pickle once he's settled...I don't think he minds. Too much.

08/04/2026

🐶 We recently had a Meet & Greet followed by an overnight stay with Alfie, the Jack Russell Terrier.

💚 At near 4 years old, Alfie has hardly been away from his lovely pet parent and is not a people dog so we took things slowly, at Alfies pace.

🐶 If a dog is playful then using a toy - in this case a farty sprout - is a great way to build trust and bond with a dog who is a little people shy.

💚 Alfie was happy to bring the sprout back to me quickly, knowing his reward would be to chase and kill that sprout. Perfect for a terriers enrichment.

🐶 I popped Alfies bed close to the door as he was happy to be on lookout for his persons return. He didn't stress, pant, pace, whine or bark. He'd just lay quite relaxed waiting.

💚 Alfie ate his dinner and breakfast, loved a bone and responded to me straight away whenever I said his name - all great signs that a dog is happy enough - even though we knew he just needed his human here.

🐶 Going for a walk was much harder for Alfie, he didn't enjoy increasing the gap between the house and us at all as we walked across the Croft. Panting and pulling back showed this was stressful for Alfie so we did a small circle and retreated back to safety where Alfie recovered quickly - familiar smells of his bed was a great comfort to him.

💚 We're confident when Alfie returns, he'll be happy to see us as for the most part he enjoyed himself and did really well.
We have a little plan under our fur coat for walkies so watch this space...
