🌿 Enhancing Equine Wellness: Combining BEMER Therapy with Shiatsu 🐎✨

Looking to get the most out of your horse’s bodywork sessions? One of the most powerful combinations I offer is Shiatsu therapy paired with the BEMER Equine PEMF Blanket — and here’s why they work so beautifully together:

🔸 BEMER PEMF Therapy (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) helps stimulate microcirculation, enhancing blood flow, oxygen delivery, and cellular metabolism. It “warms up” the body from within — preparing muscles and tissues to better receive deeper work.

🔸 Shiatsu complements this by working along the meridians and acupressure points, helping to release tension, restore energy flow, and support the nervous system’s shift into a healing state.

💡 When used together, BEMER and Shiatsu:
✅ Help the body relax more quickly and deeply
✅ Enhance the effectiveness of both treatments
✅ Support detoxification and recovery
✅ Encourage more frequent signs of release (like yawning, licking, and deep breathing)

Whether your horse is in regular training, recovering from injury, or simply needing support to feel their best — this combination delivers **gentle, non-invasive, whole-body results**.

🌀The Power of a Yawn:
What It Means in Equine Shiatsu 🐴💤

If you’ve ever seen your horse yawn during a Shiatsu session, you’ve witnessed something powerful!

In the world of equine bodywork, a yawn means so much.
A yawn, is a **release**. When a horse yawns, licks, chews, or sighs, it often indicates that tension is leaving the body. These subtle (and sometimes dramatic) signs are the horse’s way of saying, *“That feels better.”*

During an equine Shiatsu session, yawning may occur when:
✨ A block or tension point has been gently released
✨ The parasympathetic nervous system begins to shift from “fight or flight” to “rest and digest”
✨ The horse starts to process emotional or physical stress

It’s a beautiful moment of connection and healing — and one of the many reasons I love this work. Every yawn tells a story of balance being restored.

Returning to something you love is like coming home after a long journey. It’s not just the familiar place, action, or thing that brings comfort—it’s the reconnection with a part of yourself that has been waiting for you to come back. In those moments, you realise that the time away have only deepened your understanding and appreciation for what you hold dear. The joy lies not just in returning, but in the realisation that your heart never truly left. It was always there, quietly waiting for you.

Last year, I had to step away from shiatsu. The quiet bond shared with horses, where each breath between us feels like an unspoken language. These things have a special place for me. The energy of a horse—strong yet gentle—nurtures growth and understanding. Returning to Shiatsu with horses over the weekend I rediscovered a deeper appreciation of what truly matters.

What's wrong with nailed on metal shoes?
As soon as applied the hoof is out of balance.
Every day that the shoe stays on, the hoof goes further out of balance and starts the pathway to distortion.
The metal shoe forces the hoof to engage the whole hoof wall and therefore increase direct concussion to the limb, joints, tendons and muscles.
The disconnection of the sole and frog from ground contact creates disfunction and leads to weakening of the tissues.
The nails create an opportunity for pathogens to invade the capsule.
Nails break up and weaken the hoof capsule.
Do you think that blood supply would be compramised?
If you place several nails into a hoof capsule this means that you have added pressure on the soft tissues, which forces the hoof to distort.
The horse has to build muscle to try and compensate for the imbalances and extra concussive effects.
The disfunction of the hoof can cause temperament changes in the horse.
We expect a horse to be athletic and responsive, yet we still use this dysfunctional hoofwear and wonder why there is so much lameness?
Some say that these shoes protect the hoof, how exactly?

What would your reaction be to this behaviour?

Behaviours in horses always happen for a reason.
Pain, not being listened to, negative reactions in the past etc....
No behaviour should ever be ignored!
It is our job to listen as owners, riders, handlers or healers to the horses we own or work with and help. To understand why a horse may behave that way and from there, find the way to help them. To understand and let the horse know, we hear you, we understand!

Touch is powerful. Nothing comforts, enlivens or commands attention like touch. For all our human advances, social media, high speed communication, we remain starved in the domain of contact, real contact.

Shiatsu works by creating a connection between the receiver and me as the giver of touch in a supportive space that connects you to the self-healing capacities.

By understanding just how powerful touch is and how it can support and help heal.

Each session is entirely unique, as you are entirely unique.
