Managing your dog’s pain can be challenging, and even small changes can be a sign that something’s not quite right.
If you notice anything new or concerning, the best thing to do is book a visit to the vet — they can help get to the root of the issue and offer the right support. 🩵🐾

Keep your dog safe in this heat 🐾☀️
Heatstroke ☀️
As much as we all love the hot weather, it is essential that we think about our pets. If we feel hot imagine how hot it feels with a fur coat!
Signs of heatstroke
☀️ Fast heart rate
☀️Vomiting
☀️ Diarrhoea
☀️Heavy panting
☀️ Excessive Drooling
☀️Wobbly, disoriented and staggering
☀️Glassy Eyes
☀️Restlessness and agitation
☀️ Seizures
☀️ Collapse
Extreme caution should be taken for all animals but particularly those who are large, are brachycephalic (flat-faced) or very young, as these are more sensitive to heat and therefore at higher risk. When temperatures reach above 28° this becomes dangerous to all and can become life threatening.
Always provide free access to fresh water for all your animals. Encouraging your animals to take a dip in a paddling pool can also help cool them down.
Don't forget about your small pets too! Provide lots of shade, and make sure their accommodation has plenty of airflow. You can also help cooling accommodation by freezing bottles of water and placing damp towels in enclosures 🐰🐹🐓
If you are worried your animal may be suffering from heat stroke act immediately. Cool first, then transport to your vet! Turn the air conditioning on in your car before starting your journey, spray your pet with lukewarm water and place in the shade. Cool, damp towels can also be placed in the car for your pet to lie on during the journey.
Remember: A dog has never died from missing a walk but it could die from heat stroke.

🐾 DOG SHOW POSTPONED 🐾
We’re so sorry to say that Saturday’s Dog Show at Boarstall Tower has been postponed due to the extreme heat forecast 🌡️🐶
🐕🦺 Boarstall Fete and vintage setup is looking lovely and is still going ahead as planned, so please leave your pups at home in the cool, but do pop along for a fun afternoon exploring the stalls, entertainment, and everything else going on!
The Met Office is predicting temperatures of 33°C on the day, and according to veterinary guidance (see chart below), this level of heat is life-threatening for dogs, especially brachycephalic breeds, puppies, older dogs, and those with thick coats or health issues. We simply cannot take the risk — your dog’s safety comes first.
💻 But don’t worry! We’ll be announcing an online version of the dog show very soon, so our fabulous rosettes and prizes are still up for grabs, and we’ll still be raising money for charity 🏅🐕
Thank you for your understanding and for always putting the wellbeing of our furry friends first ❤️
Stay safe and cool!

🌞 Hot Weather Update! 🌞
This week is set to be a warm one – but a hydro session is a great way for your dog to cool off while staying active! 🐶💦
To help keep everyone comfortable and safe:
🐾 Please wait in your air-conditioned car until your appointment time – we’ll come and get you when we’re ready.
💦 We may be leaving dogs a little damp after their sessions to help them stay cool.
💡 We’ll be keeping the lights off in the centre where we can to help maintain a cooler environment.
⏱️ Session lengths may be slightly shorter to keep things nice and steady for your dog in the warmer temperatures.
💨 We will have a fan going in the physio room to keep it cooler
If you have any concerns or questions, just get in touch – we’re always happy to help.
Let’s beat the heat together! ❄️

Previously known as Hamilton’s Canine Hydrotherapy. On the 1st of September Lynne Hamilton handed over her business and lovely clients to Katherine Hill ready for her big move to Kent.
Hamilton’s has been established since 2009 and has grown as a business. Lynne went from being the only employee to having an office manager (Tracey) followed by other Canine Hydrotherapists (Ellie, Tracey, Amy and Katherine).
Ellie and Tracey are still swimming dogs alongside Katherine with the passion to rehabilitate small animals, improving there quality of life and reduce pain.
Hill’s Canine Hydrotherapy, Grendon Underwood, Bucks is a safe, friendly, professional centre and is a full member of the Canine Hydrotherapy Association (CHA).
All our staff are qualified to the required level and are all members of the CHA. We work as a highly efficient team and love what we do!
We pride ourselves on customer satisfaction and achieving the best results possible. We allow plenty of time for your dog to get used to its surroundings and we never rush them into the pool. All dogs will be required to wear a canine life jacket or simple harness which we will provide. The length of each swim will depend on the condition, ability of your dog and the recommendation of your vet.
All dogs swum at Hill's Canine Hydrotherapy must have gained their vets CONSENT (not direct referral) . This safeguards your dog from any medical conditions that may be present and would dictate the level of swimming. Many dogs do come to us through direct veterinary referral. We have a simple form that needs completing prior to your visit, this can be found on our website as well on our page. We are confident to liaise with your vet and will send regular progress reports with regard to surgical and rehabilitation cases.
Please feel free to call us if you’d like to have a chat and for us to fill in your consent form.
What is Hydrotherapy?
Hydrotherapy basically means healing with water. There is a huge range of conditions that benefit from hydrotherapy and many insurance companies will cover treatment. Conditions include:-
Pre and Post operative conditions.
Pain, swelling and stiffness (arthritis, veteran dogs).
Hip and elbow dysplasia, OCD, cruciate ligament injuries.
Spinal injuries, paralysis, amputation (strengthens muscles, increases range of movement, promotes overall blood circulation).
Cardiovascular fitness (improves heart and lung function). Excellent for working, agility, racing and show dogs. A five minute swim is roughly equivalent to a five mile run!
Obesity (weight loss in conjunction with diet) and weight management.
Behavioural problems. Swimming allows your dog to release his energy in a safe and healthy manner. This in turn helps to rebalance his mental well being and may help reduce unwanted behaviour.
Because swimming is totally non weight bearing it is extremely useful with young large breed dogs where exercise may be restricted due to possible joint damage.
Puppy swims - these are designed for puppies over the age of 12 weeks. It is a great way to introduce your puppy to water and reassures you that should your puppy fall into water or perhaps require hydrotherapy in the future, they will have the confidence to swim. It also helps to build their confidence in new surroundings and with new noises (e.g. the hairdryer!). The emphasis is on fun and enjoyment not the length of swims.
Our Facilities
Our polypropylene pool is custom built and measures 3.8m x 2.4m and is 1.2m in depth. There is a built in internal ramp which is also used to rest the dogs during their swim. Access up to the pool edge is via a sturdy, gently sloping external ramp. Extra staff will be used to safely assist severely disabled dogs into the pool.
Swim jets are used to create a variable water flow. These can be adjusted for position and strength depending on size, condition and fitness of your dog. Jets help encourage movement in the water particularly useful for neurological damage, limb paralysis or fitness work.
The pool water is kept at a constant 29-30c. Warm water is proven to promote blood circulation which helps relax muscles, easing pain in joints, tendons, helps reduce swelling and aids overall healing.
Our pool is sanitised to the highest standard and the water is tested 2 times a day in line with CHA regulations and adjusted accordingly. These measures ensure a totally safe swim for each and every dog.
There is a fully tiled shower area next to the pool so that your dog can be washed before and after their swim. Towels and a dryer are provided so that we can ensure your dog leaves our centre as warm and dry as possible.
There is ample off road parking on site and a grassed area. It is imperative your dog relieves itself before swimming. (This hopefully avoids any "accidents" in the pool!).
