Hampden Veterinary Hospital

Hampden Veterinary Hospital We are very proud to have served animal owners for over 80 years. 24/7 Emergency Hospital. iiE Bronze

There has been a veterinary practice at our present Hospital site in Aylesbury for over 100 years, which at that time was on the edge of the town and where the vet worked out of his Georgian house with stables in what was his back garden. This building continued to be used as part of our Small Animal Hospital till 2009. We fully renovated it in 2011 to use as our Farm Practice Office.

Exercising in temps over 20 degrees can be a risk to fit healthy dogs, much lower for elderly, obese, flat-faced or large breed dogs 🌡️🔥

Take them for a walk early morning or evening when it’s cool.

Stay safe and enjoy the glorious weather ❤

Fearne the Great Swiss Mountain Dog brightened everyone’s day at the small animal hospital yesterday. This gentle giant came in for her routine epilepsy blood test, which is an important check to make sure her medication levels are just right and keeping her seizures well controlled.

Fearne is also one of our lovely patients on our Pet Care Plan, which means her regular health checks and routine monitoring are all kept up to date, helping us stay on top of her condition and keep her feeling her best.

While the team quietly took her sample, Fearne enjoyed belly tickles, head pats, and an outrageous amount of fuss. She was so relaxed she didn’t even notice her bloods being taken!

Here’s to Fearne - a gentle giant, a model patient, and an all round good girl.

Mabel’s Dental Day 🦷🐶

Lovely Mabel the toy poodle visited us yesterday for her dental. As a member of our Pet Care Plan, her owners receive a 10% discount on her treatment, which is a great added bonus!💚

Mabel did brilliantly and enjoyed a cosy recovery in kennels afterwards - complete with her very own support nurse, the lovely Toni!

Regular dental care is an important part of keeping our pets comfortable and healthy, and Mabel took it all in her (very small and very fluffy) stride!

We will run heatstroke information regularly for you throughout the hot weather.

⚠️ Remember: Wet then Vet. 🌊🏥👇

Quickly wet the dog with cool water around 15 degrees (not freezing cold). If not available, any water that is cooler than the dog’s skin feels.

Cool water, around 15°C, is ideal, but any water will help. If you only have soft drinks, ensure they don't contain xylitol, and avoid pouring them on the dog's head. Wetting the dog will promote cooling through evaporation. Do this before taking them to the vet but don't spend too much time on it.

Afterward, contact the vet and inform them about the situation and how long it will take you to arrive. This allows the vet's team to prepare for your dog's arrival and increases their chances of receiving prompt treatment.

Avoid using wet towels on the dog as they can trap heat. However, specialised cooling vests that function through evaporation are suitable.
