This is a really informative and unbiased review of the literature associated with this topic.
Worth a read whether you’re a pet owner or a professional:

The people most vulnerable to myths and misinformation misinformation don't deserve social media posts disguised as "scientific proof". They deserve unbiased scientifically proven facts.

Just a series of dogs snacking on berries!
Raspberries for these dogs
They do seem to enjoy it especially when they’re hand picked.

Hot hot heat?
A really good tip whilst it’s hot, add extra water to your dogs’ meals.
Whatever you feed them, feed them a cold soup, add some extra water into their meals for a couple days . UK dogs aren’t used to being hot, so to prevent dehydration, add in some water to their diet.

This is so align with my philosophy.
Dogs need to be dogs! They need to take risks, they should not be contained

We are their teachers their mentors , we are there to guide them. Not control them 💕

Village dogs risk their lives every single day.
They cross roads. Navigate fights. Work out who and what to trust. That’s how they grow up strong, adaptable, confident.

Our pet dogs? They come from that same lineage - but live a world apart.

We’ve removed almost every opportunity to take risks. They’re kept safe, controlled, contained. No choices. No freedom. No chance to fail and figure it out.

And we’re seeing the effects. Not just in behaviour, but in confidence, creativity, and resilience.

Kids are going through something similar. Play is disappearing. Movement is limited. But children still find ways to chase challenge - even if it’s synthetic, through games and screens.

Dogs don’t have that outlet. No risk. No adventure. No stimulation. Just a list of rules and routines.

If we want resilient dogs - not just obedient ones - we have to start giving them something back.

Challenge. Autonomy. Movement. Safe but meaningful chances to make decisions, take risks, and learn from them.

It’s not about letting go of all structure. It’s about making space for growth. Because without risk, there is no resilience.

Let them try. Let them move. Let them learn who they are.

It’s hot so avoid taking your dog out on the street or in the car.. if you live near water then take them there instead! Put some sandals on your feet and join them , even if your dog doesn’t swim they’ll appreciate paddling and being cool
If you can’t walk near water or in the shade then just stay home, or walk before the sun comes up or later in the evening Your dog won’t suffer missing a walk but heat stroke is serious and life threatening

Goodbye sweet Jack you were the softest kindest dog, so empathetic and gentle, you swam like an otter and were loyal and clever and got along with all dogs. Such a beautiful boy, 🌈💔
