🐢💚 FACT FRIDAY! 💚🐢

DID YOU KNOW?

Some turtles can breathe underwater! 🤯🌊

Certain species of turtle have specialised areas of skin, particularly around the cloaca, that can absorb oxygen from the water.

This amazing adaptation allows them to stay underwater for long periods, especially when they’re resting or during colder months when their metabolism slows down. 🐢❄️

So technically… some turtles have found a way to breathe through their bum! 😂

Nature really is WILD! 🌎🐢

🐾 Wags & Co Know-How: Not all turtles have this ability, and they still need to come to the surface to breathe normally.

🌱🐶 WHY DOES MY DOG EAT GRASS?

Ever wondered why your dog suddenly turns into a lawnmower on your walks? 😂

The truth is, eating grass is pretty common in dogs and doesn’t always mean something is wrong.

👃 IT’S NATURAL!
Dogs explore the world with their mouths, and grass can simply be interesting to sniff, taste and chew.

🌿 THEY LIKE THE TASTE & TEXTURE
Some dogs genuinely enjoy eating grass — just like we enjoy a snack!

🧠 BOREDOM OR ENRICHMENT
For some dogs, grazing can be something to do, particularly if they’re not getting enough mental stimulation.

🤢 BUT WHAT IF THEY’RE SICK?
You may have heard that dogs eat grass to make themselves vomit. While some dogs may eat grass when they feel unwell, it’s not a reliable way for dogs to treat an upset stomach.

⚠️ WHEN SHOULD YOU WORRY?
If your dog is suddenly eating large amounts of grass, repeatedly vomiting, has diarrhoea, seems lethargic, appears painful or has other changes in behaviour, it’s worth speaking to your vet.

🐾 WAGS & CO KNOW-HOW:
A little grass munching can be perfectly normal — but always make sure your dog has access to safe, untreated grass and avoid areas that may have been treated with pesticides or other chemicals.

🌱 Is your dog a grass gobbler? Tell us in the comments! 😂👇

🐾 MYTH VS FACT MONDAY! 🐾

🐶 MYTH:

“Dogs eat grass because they’re trying to make themselves sick.” 🌱

🧠 FACT:

Not necessarily! While some dogs may vomit after eating grass, many dogs eat grass without being ill at all.

It can simply be a normal behaviour — some dogs enjoy the taste or texture, while others may be exploring their environment.

💡 WAGS & CO TIP:
If your dog suddenly starts eating large amounts of grass, seems unwell, vomits repeatedly or shows other changes in behaviour, it’s best to speak to your vet.

And always be mindful of grass that may have been treated with weedkillers, pesticides or other chemicals. 🌿⚠️

So next time your dog stops for a salad… they might just fancy a snack! 😂🐾

Today is all about looking at the whole picture when it comes to our pets’ wellbeing — not just their food or exercise, but their physical health, mental wellbeing and everyday environment too. 🐶🐱🐰

A few simple ways to support a happy, healthy pet:

🥩 A balanced diet suited to their needs
🧠 Plenty of mental stimulation and enrichment
🐕 Regular exercise and play
🛏️ A comfortable, safe place to rest
🩺 Routine health checks and preventative care

Every pet is different, so what works for one might not work for another. The best approach is finding the right balance for your individual pet.

🐾 STAFF PICK OF THE WEEK! 🐾

🦜🦎 CUTTLEFISH BONE — A MUST-HAVE FOR BIRDS & REPTILES!

Our staff pick this week is something simple but seriously useful — cuttlefish bone! 🐚✨

For pet birds, cuttlefish bone is a great source of calcium and can provide a natural way to help keep their beaks busy and naturally worn. 🦜

For certain reptiles, cuttlefish bone can also be a useful calcium source and can be offered appropriately as part of a balanced diet. 🦎💚

🌟 WHY WE LOVE IT:

✔️ A natural source of calcium
✔️ Great enrichment for birds
✔️ Helps provide something safe to chew
✔️ Useful calcium supplementation for suitable reptiles
✔️ Simple, affordable & easy to use!

💡 Wags & Co Tip: Not every bird or reptile has the same nutritional needs, so always make sure calcium supplementation is appropriate for your species and diet.

Pop into Wags & Co to grab yours! 🛍️🐾

🐾 FACT FRIDAY! 🐾

🐱 DID YOU KNOW?

Cats have a special organ that helps them “taste” smells! 👃😸

It’s called the Jacobson’s organ, and it’s located on the roof of a cat’s mouth.

You might notice your cat pulling a funny face — mouth slightly open, upper lip curled and looking like they’re saying “eww!” 😂

This is called the flehmen response. Your cat is actually using this behaviour to collect and analyse interesting scents!

So when your cat pulls that face… they’re not judging your cooking. 👀😂
