🎉 Huge News! 🎉

I am incredibly proud to share that I have officially gained my National Development Programme for Coaching Excellence Certificate of Achievement! 🐴✨

This was a highly competitive, programme 2025/2026 run by the absolute best in our industry: RDA, British Equestrian, British Dressage, British Showjumping, The British Horse Society, British Eventing, and The Pony Club.

🤔 Who gets onto this course?

Places are strictly limited! It is designed for ambitious, established coaches (Level 3 or equivalent) with a proven track record of helping riders grow, stay motivated, and truly enjoy their equestrian journey. Being selected alongside a small group of top-tier coaches from across the UK was an absolute honour!

📋 What did we look at?

We dove deep into advanced coaching techniques:

Learning Styles:

Fine-tuning how I deliver information to match exactly how you learn best.

Facilitating the rider and looking at rider biomechanics and equine welfare and how the horse best learns.

The newest information on this filtering down from the top giving us coaches the in- depth knowledge and information to studies that have highlighted the best way forward for our industry regarding coaching and equine welfare.

Mindset & Psychology:

Looking at mental toughness, confidence, and performing under pressure.

Self-Reflection: 🤔

Critically evaluating my own coaching to deliver an even better service to you and your horse.

💡 Learning from the best.

One of the best parts was having direct access to leading experts and elite coaches and Olympiams from across the equine sector and other sporting disciplines.

This gave us an incredible space to share best practices and build a powerful network bridging dressage, showjumping, eventing etc ………🤝

And so much more 😅……….

What this means for you and your horse.

Going forward, you will see the direct benefits of this training in our sessions. I plan to take a good stance on being a non ego coach that helps facilitate my rider taking into account at all times the welfare of the horse going forward, the continued learning never stops ….

I have things planned already for later this year which I will bring to the fore front nearer the time and also for next year, for me the love of what I do to help those who choose me as their coach or schooling their horses I will continue to keep developing and keeping up to date with good industry practices.

Where do I go from here?

Learning never stops! Armed with this certification and a fantastic new network of peers, I am stepping back into the arena with fresh energy, new perspectives, and a revamped toolkit to help you reach your goals—wherever your riding journey takes you. 😊

Big shout out to all the elite coaches I had the pleasure to work along side, I look forward to continuing our journey together into the future.

Moustache of the Week Winner: Polar! 🏆🧔

I started coaching sessions bright and early today with a very special pair! Meet Polar, owned by my fantastic client Rhianna.

Polar put in some seriously impressive dressage work today. We focused heavily on securing the correct canter lead on the right rein. This has been a tricky area for him as he tends to pick up the incorrect lead, but his hard work is paying off. Today, he nailed three correct leads and only gave us one incorrect one! Talk about massive progress!

While he gets a gold medal for his focus, we think he also deserves a trophy for his incredible facial hair.

Move over Movember, Polar is rocking the look all year round! 😆😆👀.

The Science Behind the Stache: Why Do Some Horses Have Moustaches? 🤔👇

👌Sensory Tools: Upper lip hair acts like whiskers (vibrissae) to help horses feel objects right in front of their noses.

👌Blind Spot Navigation: Horses cannot see directly under their muzzle, so the moustache detects food and fencing.

👌Grazing Guidance: These sensitive hairs identify different textures of grass and protect the lips from prickles or sharp rocks.

👌Genetic Traits: The gene for heavy feathering on the legs is closely linked to the gene for growing facial hair.Breed Differences:

👌Heavy cob breeds, Gypsy Vanners, and Shires grow massive moustaches due to these specific genetic traits.

👌Seasonal Changes: These magnificent staches often grow thicker in winter to protect the skin from freezing mud and moisture.

Tiny habits can stall your dressage progress.

Small riding habits often go unnoticed, but they can hold back your improvement. Spot them early, make small changes, and build better connection and performance with your horse.

What habit are you ready to change today?

Sorry, I can't hear you—I’m way too busy putting in that arena time! 🎧🐴

Between coaching amazing horse-and-rider pairs and schooling horses under saddle, my days are packed, dusty, and incredibly rewarding 😊.

There is nothing better than watching those "lightbulb moments" happen in real-time or feeling a horse step up to the next level of training!

What training goals are YOU working on with your horse this week? Let me know in the comments! 👇💬

Feeling lost after your dressage lesson?

A good prep plan means you leave with clarity, not confusion. Before your next session, jot down your goals, review past feedback, and bring questions to guide your progress.

Ready to make every lesson count?

What a beautiful start to a very busy day here in Maidstone, Kent! ☀️

First coaching session of the morning is done and dusted! Katie is giving the gorgeous Alfie a well-deserved cool down after a great session.

I am out and about coaching all day today, and with this heat, safety is my absolute priority. As a coach, high temperatures mean tweaking how we train. We can still achieve incredible outcomes, but we have to work smarter—adjusting the intensity, taking strategic walk breaks, and keeping a close eye on respiratory rates.Managing your horse after a hard workout in the heat is just as critical as the session itself.

Here are three quick tips to keep them safe:Cool with continuous running water.

✔️Hose the whole body, especially the large blood vessels in the neck and hindquarters, until the skin feels cool.Prioritise immediate hydration.

✔️Offer clean, fresh, non-chilled water straight after unsaddling to help them replenish lost fluids safely

✔️Seek shade and air movement. Move your horse into a breezy breezeway, under trees, or in front of a fan to help lower their core temperature.

Time to head to my next client 🙂 Stay cool out there everyone, and keep your horses safe. 🐴✨P.S. Want to smash your training goals while keeping your horse safe and happy this summer?

Looking organised in the arena is easy — but being truly organised makes all the difference in your ride.

It's about consistency, clear communication, and a strong connection with your horse. Not just the neat turnout.

Ask yourself:
- Are your transitions planned and purposeful?
- Is your horse listening, or just going through the motions?
- Are you riding with intention, or just hoping it looks right?

Real readiness comes from the inside out.

Are you focusing more on appearance or on genuine preparation?

Drop a comment below or DM me — let's talk about bringing true organisation to your training.

Struggling to stay calm and focused during your dressage lessons? Try slowing down your pace and setting clear, simple goals for each session. Focus on one skill at a time, and celebrate small wins with your horse. This approach makes learning easier and builds confidence for both of you. How can you tell if your horse truly understands you?

Repeating exercises isn't always learning. Look for signs of connection, responsiveness, and confidence—not just mechanical movement. When your horse thinks, not just copies, progress happens.

What's one way you check your horse's understanding during training?
