What does a Veterinary Nurse do?

NEONATAL CARE

One of the roles of a Veterinary Nurse is caring for out youngest patients. Whether they have been born in the practice through an emergency caesarian, come in poorly or have been orphaned, Veterinary Nurses are key in supporting young kitten and puppies in a vital stage of their life.

Providing food, warmth and love, Veterinary Nurses show enormous care even to the smallest patient.

PHLEBOTOMIST

Another one of the roles of a Veterinary Nurse is taking blood samples and placing IV cannulas. This includes diagnostic blood tests and pre anaesthetic blood tests. Placing IV cannulas for anesthesia, medications, and to provide intravenous fluid therapy.

Sometimes it can take a whole team of nurses, but they always get the job done!

What does a Veterinary Nurse do?

ADMITTING AND DISCHARGING PATIENTS

One of the roles of a Veterinary Nurse is to admit patients to the practice, including for surgical procedures. On admission, it is the Veterinary Nurse's role to gain informed consent from the owner, answering questions, and make sure that the patient is healthy and fit to have the procedure.

It is also their role to then discharge the patient, creating home care plans and ensuring that the patient has the best recovery at home.

May is Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month!

This month is to recognise our Veterinary Nurse Team and the key role they play in practice.

Throughout the month we will be sharing what roles our Veterinary Nurse's do, who our Veterinary Nurses are and more!

This year, the campaign theme is ‘Compassion and Empathy’. Reflecting the dedication and passion required to both train and practise as a veterinary nurse.

To highlight Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month, the BVNA (British Veterinary Nursing Association) has created a way for people to acknowledge Registered Veterinary Nurses, Student Veterinary Nurses and Veterinary Nursing Teams that have made a difference to them and their pet. Please see below for more details.

It was lovely having a visit from Cherry Tree Pet Crematorium recently. We are proud to continue to work closely with them, supporting another local independent business.

We were delighted to visit the team at Margetts & Associates recently a genuinely welcoming independent practice.

It was a chance to properly catch up, talk through how everything is working from both sides, and make sure we’re continuing to support clients and their pets in the best way possible.

At Cherry Tree, we’ve always believed that clear communication between veterinary practices and crematoriums makes a real difference. When everyone understands the process, the options available, and what happens next, it means owners can be guided with confidence and care at a time when they need it most.

We also spoke about inviting the team over to Cherry Tree, so they can see first-hand what we do, how everything works behind the scenes, and feel completely confident in who they are recommending.

Thank you again to the team at Margetts & Associates for your time, your warm welcome, and for the care you show every day. It means a lot to work alongside people who share the same values.

‼️‼️ Our internet is down this morning, which means we are currently unable to access our system on the computers ‼️‼️

We have spoken to an engineer and they are currently working on the problem - our phone lines are unaffected, but we won't be able to process any orders until they have it back up and running, which we are hoping won't be too long!

Please continue to attend appointments as usual and we will let you know as soon as it is all back up and working 😊

Thank you for your patience! ❤️
