Meet Nugget!
At 58 grams he is one of our smallest patients, but he is also one our most stoic and brave patients too.
Nuggets family found him on Friday with a pr*****ed cheek pouch, the tissue had become necrotic and swollen and he could not eat.
So, at 6pm on Friday night we operated on him, amputated the necrotic pouch and hoped for the best. Hamsters are a high anaesthesia risk and the fact that he couldnโt eat alone worried us.
Thankfully, Nugget took his syringe feeds and oral meds so well so we sent him home for further syringe feeding and meds.
Here is the little guy today, his mouth has healed amazingly well and he is even storing food in his other pouch already, gaining weight and eating bits of solid food!
His mum told us how much he loved his syringe feeds and pouches of baby food! She worked so hard feeding him around the clock to ensure he recovered.
He has done amazingly well and is the friendliest hamster we have ever met.
Well done, sweetheart! ๐นโค๏ธ
