Sunday evening was the final lesson of 11yr old Sky’s Equestrian Extravaganza Weekend and she celebrated with her 7yr old sister, Ria. Outstanding work girls, with Sky in her first controlled canter down both sides of the arena on True Blu and sister Ria putting a proper jump in on Danny Boy Magic!

5yr old Finn is learning about road safety at school and he just loves getting out on his favourite ponies, Rocco and Dolly. He has to make it fair, so he does the same on both. This week he was on gelding, Rocco. Great hand signals and safety checks Finn! Good luck in the choir at St. Joseph’s Primary, we just love a nativity at Ballylagan Trail Rides! 💯in the difficult quiz!

The afternoon trail was a Christmas treat for local family, mum, Michelle, 14yr old experienced rider, Grace, 12yr old Lewis and first timer, 7yr old Charlotte. Amazing work guys, all ending in an active trot and smiles all round….

This morning, horse care and riding student, 14yr old Isla, done her first tack fitting and then went off to do her first trail on Danny Boy Magic and ended in an active trot up to the stables. Fabulous work Isla, you nailed it!

Meanwhile, there was a very special birthday on the Lisglass Road that Dolly had to attend. Happy 7th birthday to Gabriella and well done to you and your friends grooming Dolly and tinting her hair. Then it was off for a ride up the drive and halfway through Dolly grew a horn!!! 🦄🎁🎂🎉

Early this morning Sky turned up with the crew to take part in a “Me & My Pony Day”. This was a dual birthday and reward for completing her AQE tests. Sky placed her lunch order first, as we have to get our priorities right! Then it was off to muck out, before commencing the grooming process on True Blue. We tacked up and then went for a warmup before we headed to the trail. Ohhh hold on a minute…. I think we will have a hot chocolate break! Then off for an adventure with mum, who is an experienced rider, and they both travelled around the exclusive off-road trail. Exceptional work Sky and mum, you both nailed that active trot at the end!! We hope you had an amazing day and enjoyed you nuggets and chips before the 2nd part of your birthday surprise came!

Friday was a winter wonderland at Ballylagan Trail Rides for our private lessons of Reeva, Lily-rose and Abigail. All going independently over the trotting poles and cavalettis. 💯 in the quiz Reeva and Lily-Rose, and untacking by Abigail.

Beautiful colours in the arena this evening for mum and daughter team of Janine and Holly. Tonight after doing trotting poles they were both introduced to canter poles followed by 3 stride cavalettis ….. superb work you pair and ending in a canter up the lane.

It was lovely to meet Skerries couple, veterinarian Aine and computer analyst, Darragh. Both had a lovely break at the Galgorm Resort & Spa and ended with a trek at Ballylagan Trail Rides. This will set them both up for Christmas. Fantastic riding the pair of you, and Darragh who is more comfortable on the golf course, had his first ride and both ended in an active trot……

The sun shone for Ballycastle lady, 66yrs young, Rosemary this morning. Today Rosemary was introduced to the 3 loop serpentine and she practiced her square halts with great success. Amazing work as always Rosemary, and thank you for the carrots, the horses and ponies devoured them!

Some of the ponies and horses had a spa day today in our solarium. This keeps BTR horses happy, increases their suppleness and promotes muscle development, leading to your horse being stronger and with less injuries.

Awesome work from 11yr old Finn, who has more time on her hands now she has finished her Transfer Test. Tonight we did the scenario, trotting without stirrups, finding our reins, reinback, dismounting, leading and made sharp work of mounting up from the ground. Ending in a canter down the arena…

Excellent work for 10yr old Emma this evening. Emma nailed her rising trot and experienced her first reinback. Then we did a Scenario, where Emma had to trot without stirrups, find them and then find her reins, dismount and then lead True Blu, and finally mount from the ground!

Outstanding work from 11yr old Hope. Tonight Hope achieved her first arena of canter on both reins! After that she had the trail ride Scenario, loosing her stirrups, reins, crop and dismounting, leading and mounting up from the ground with another canter to end!!

Amazing work from the Tuesday evening group of Eva-mae, Jules and Lucy. Warming up in trot and doing the Scenario of reinback, finding the stirrups and reins, dismounting , leading and this older group had to mount up again! All successful and another fun session…

Super well done to Betsy, Minnie, Ariella and Harley this evening. After we warmed up, we did a Scenario….. we were out on the trail and we had to reinback or else we were going to fall off a cliff, then we lost our stirrups, then we lost our reins going over a jump and finally we dropped our crop, so we had to get off and lead our ponies through a gate and lift the crop ……. 🤠

This morning Chris shared the Forest Trail with 33yr old Equestrian student, Abdulelah from Saudi Arabia. Abdulelah was staying in London with his sisters and mum, who wanted to shop, so he decided to hop on the plane to Belfast to go on a trail at Ballylagan Trail Rides! Wise decision Abdulelah and you definitely made the most of it…..you got your first gallop and then Chris threw another one in for good measure. Tremendous work Abdulelah, it was lovely to meet you and we hope to see you soon……

Happy 11th birthday to Darla, who has just finished her AQE tests and celebrated with her 12yr old sister, Jayla and they were both accompanied by 9yr old Anna, who returned from Wicklow. The drizzle didn’t stop these three girls having a great adventure on their ponies around the exclusive 1hr off-road trail. Amazing work girls and all ending in an active trot…..

Horse care students 15yr old Isla and 12yr old Molly had their work cut out for them this morning , banking up the horses beds. Then it was off to do road safety and Isla’s first. Great work girls with clear hand signals and safety checks and ending in an active trot and a few strides of canter for Isla!
