🐾💚Vet Nurse Awareness Month 💚🐾

Did you know there are different routes to becoming a Veterinary Nurse here in Northern Ireland? 🐶🐱📚

Veterinary nursing is an incredibly rewarding career that combines hands-on patient care, medical knowledge, compassion, and teamwork. Student veterinary nurses work hard balancing both practical training and academic study to become Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs).

One pathway is studying the Veterinary Nursing degree at Ulster University, which includes a placement year working in veterinary practice to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience alongside university learning. (Ulster University)

Another route is completing the Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing through CAFRE Greenmount Campus and Northern Regional College. Student nurses attend college one day per week while working in a veterinary clinic the other four days, allowing them to gain practical experience while completing exams, coursework, clinical skills assessments, and practical training. (CAFRE)

No matter which pathway is taken, becoming a veterinary nurse requires dedication, resilience, compassion, and a genuine love for animal care. 🩺🐾

At Firmount Vets, we are proud to support and work alongside student veterinary nurses and qualified RVNs who care for our patients every single day. 💚

🐾💚Vet Nurse Awareness Month 💚🐾

Veterinary nurses are often described as being like icebergs, there is so much more to their role than what clients see on the surface.

At Firmount Vets, our amazing nurses are involved in every part of patient care. From nurse clinics, admissions and discharges, answering calls and supporting clients, to the behind-the-scenes roles including laboratory work, taking blood samples, monitoring anaesthetics, assisting in surgery, X-rays, inpatient care, administering medications, wound management, emergency triage, and so much more.

They are caregivers, advocates, anaesthetists, radiographers, phlebotomists, pharmacists, surgical assistants, and compassionate supporters for both pets and owners every single day. 🐶🐱🐰

A huge thank you to our incredible nursing team for their hard work, dedication, and kindness we truly couldn’t do it without you! 👏💚

💚🐾 Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month 🐾💚

May is Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month a campaign run by the British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) to celebrate and raise awareness of the vital role veterinary nurses play within the veterinary profession. 🩺🐶🐱

Veterinary nurses are highly skilled professionals who provide exceptional care to animals while supporting both owners and the wider veterinary team every single day.

Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing more about the amazing work veterinary nurses do here at Firmount Vets and highlighting the important role they play in patient care. 💚
