Hoppy Easter!! - My own large rabbits Barley & Bobbin ๐ฐ๐ฐ They are French lops, which are large rabbits and they same weight as our cat!
Rabbits are not a pet to be brought lightly, especially not for children. They are not an animal to be left in a small cage on the garden.
๐ฐ They need lots of space, just a cage from the pet shop is not enough space. They like to run and jump and explore.
๐ฐ They need a friend! In most cases, they are sociable and need companionship. Rabbits shouldnโt live alone, unless of course they just will not accept a friend.
๐ฐ Rabbits need an exotic vets - they are classed as an exotic pet, ensure you find a rabbit savy vet. Most are very knowledgeable about cats and dogs but as they just as knowledgeable about rabbits?
๐ฐ Lastly, Rabbits have unique digestive systems. They need a constant supply of food passing through their digestive tract to keep their digestive system working properly. As soon as a rabbit stops eating their usual breakfast, hay, nuggets, its a sign they need to go to the vets. It could be a life-threatening condition known asย gut stasis. A couple of my rabbits have had those over the years and luckily with this being noticed super early, after a night at the vets they have all come back home and continued back to normal. Usually ยฃ300-400 later
๐ฐ They generally donโt like being handled. They are a prey animal, being lifted can make them very uncomfortable. If they do, you are very lucky!
๐ฐ They can live a lot longer than people think when looked after properly! Up to 10-12 years.
