Doing some counter-conditioning work with Maia today in order to improve her separation anxiety and prevent my fire from disintegrating from slobber induced rust.

The process is quite simple but can be very time consuming and involves changing Maia's response to being left alone from a negative, stressful and anxious one to a positive experience based on rewards (training treats, play with her favourite pull toy and lots of cuddles) when I open the door.

Ultimately, the aim is to change Maia's response as she learns that being left alone isn't the scary and stressful experience but a positive one that results in all her favourite things.

We're very early into the process and we're only leaving her inside for about 5 seconds before I unlock the door, treat and praise her. As she begins learning, I'll slowly and incrementally increase her time left alone.

So today, Maia the newly recruited Snoot Loot Quality Control Manager has been learning to stop digging holes and also to come into the boat on command.

All done with the help of scrummy Snoot Loot 100% natural training treats, cut up into quarters so they'll go further and lots and lots of praise when she does as asked.

She loves her Snoot Loot treats so it's a no brainer to build in a little workout as she begins her training one tasty morsel at a time.
