Shandy has problems with her rear legs for some time, now she needs medication for the pain. The medication is helping her be comfortable however, Shandy is slowly fading away. She keeps herding me to the 'fridge then rejects everything I offer, haddock and salmon, cheese cheddar and camembert, chicken, various flavours and types of dog food, and what has been her favourite homemade stew of heart, cauliflower, broccoli and carrot. Still her two meals a day remaining untouched. This was her favourite meal with her choice of ingredients. Up until today, she would choose something to eat even if just enough to keep a mouse going, yesterday all she would eat was a few bits of my lunch time cheese sandwich, today even that was rejected. Since she has become difficult to feed when I go shopping I get some different types of gourmet dog food, all no use at all.
Her medication is helping the pain in her rear legs and she is walking slowly but comfortably.
Clearly I do not know how long she will stay with me, not long if she has stopped eating, still drinking and making the effort to walk to the water butt and drinking from the bucket of overflow water. Instead of the tap water in her bowl.
The Amazon delivery came and she joined Maddy in woofing through the gate as the delivery van drove off.
Shandy is 17 years old tomorrow (Friday 5th August 2022) and has been with me since she was about 1 year and 2 months old. Shandy is the slimmest she has been since shecame to me. I hope to find something she will eat. I do not want to deprive her of her last days as long as she is happy and she still has a tail wag for me. Precious days. A worry where my wants must take second place to her needs and comfort.
