Dog owners please be aware 🙏

⚠️⛔️ We have had a confirmed case of Parvovirus at our practice today ⛔️⚠️

The dog is fully vaccinated and up to date. Vaccines reduce the chance of an animal contracting the disease in the first place but they also reduce the severity of disease if the animal does end up contracting said disease.
VACCINES LITERALLY SAVE LIVES.

Sadly this isn't the first case of parvovirus we've diagnosed and it won't be the last so please ensure that your dog's vaccines are up to date.

For reference, the dog has only been in the owner's garden and to a local dog groomers. We won't be naming the groomers as we don't want them to get bad publicity when they won't have done anything wrong but they are aware so that they can take the necessary steps. Anywhere dogs visit is a risk, especially places with a high volume of canine visitors and that's why vaccinations are so important. Visiting foxes in gardens also pose a risk for multiple different diseases that can also infect our canine companions.

Clinical signs of parvovirus
- vomiting (often bloody but not always)
- diarrhoea (often bloody and foul smelling but not always)
- abdominal pain
- lethargy
- fever
- inappetence

Goodnight sleep tight my sweet Daisy Doodles 💔

I'm heartbroken to be writing this. I've cared for Daisy for almost 9 years, and in that time I have loved her like one of my own dogs.
She was the most sweetest, loveable dog, who took everything in her stride.

I am going to miss her so much! And my daily face wash!

Go and run free with Max in a million Daisy. You'll never be forgotten ❤️

Here's a few of my favourite photos of Daisy over the years 2018 - 2025

☀️🐾 Keep Your Pets Cool in the Heat! 🐶🐱
Hot weather can be tough on our furry friends. Here are some easy tips to keep them safe and cool this summer:

🌴 Provide Shade & Fresh Water
Always make sure they have access to cool, clean water and a shady spot to relax.

🐕 Walk During Cooler Hours
Take walks early in the morning or after sunset to avoid hot pavement and overheating.

🧊 Cool Treats
Freeze pet-safe treats or toys for a fun and refreshing snack.

💦 Use Cooling Mats
Let your pet lie cooling mat to help regulate body temperature.

🚫 Never Leave Pets in a Parked Car
Even with windows cracked, cars can heat up in minutes—dangerous and potentially fatal!

💇‍♂️ Groom Regularly
Brush regularly to remove excess fur. For some breeds, a summer trim helps, but check with your vet or groomer first.

Stay cool and enjoy the summer safely with your pets! 🐾❤️

We all know how important it is to keep our dogs and cats cool on warm days, but may not realise that it's just as important for small animals too ⛅

Small pets like rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, and rats should be kept cool and hydrated during warm weather to prevent them from developing life-threatening heatstroke.

Signs of heatstroke in small pets:
- Drooling.
- Quick breaths.
- Struggling to breathe.
- Acting very sleepy or lethargic.
- Collapsing.
- Seizures.

It's also a good idea to keep on top of cleaning their enclosures to prevent flystrike or a build up of wet bedding and mouldy food 🐰🐰

It features tips such as: Keeping pets in the shade, offering safe watery fruits and vegetables (in moderation), swapping out plastic houses for something cooler like cardboard boxes, freezing a water bottle and wrapping it in a towel before placing it next to your pets' enclosure, placing a fan in their room but not pointed directly at them (making sure they can't nibble any wires), grooming long-haired or fluffy pets, refreshing their water every day, and putting a cool tile or empty ceramic bowl/tea cup in their enclosure for them to sit on/in.]
