Deer Incident on B9000 - Important Advice
This morning, we received several calls and messages about a roe deer on the side of the B9000, midway between Newburgh and Pitmedden. Sadly, the female deer had badly broken legs and could not be saved, but we were able to end her suffering. It is worth noting on this occasion the person who hit the deer did get in touch with us.
There was some confusion about what to do if you hit a deer or find an injured one on the roadside.
Hereโs our advice:
1) Pull over if or when it is safe to do so and turn on your hazard lights.
2) Use the What3Words App to note your exact location.
(Download it here if you donโt have it yet: https://what3words.com/products/what3words-app )
3) If the deer is a danger to other road users, call the police on 101. Otherwise, contact your nearest wildlife rescue centre. For those in Aberdeenshire, call New Arc Wildlife Rescue on 01358 701723.
**If possible, wait at the scene in your vehicle so you can update the rescue organisation or police if the deerโs condition changes**
Stay safe and thank you for your help and concern!
