Met the Team Monday - Claire
Many of you will already know our amazing Head Nurse Claire. Having worked in the veterinary world for the last 12 years, including general practice in Strathaven and an out of hours centre in Falkirk, Claire joined the Mckenzie's team in 2022 and was promoted to Head Nurse in March 2024.
As Head Nurse, Claire's duties include decision making around the running of theatre, the prep room and kennel area, organising the nurses' rota and holidays as well as being involved in training our student nurses and doing all the usual jobs our nurses undertake such as anaesthesia, caring for inpatients, consulting, lab work, taking blood samples, placing intravenous cannulae, administration of medicines, dentistry, radiography, helping the vets and schedule 3 surgical procedures under veterinary direction - certainly a very busy job!
Claire's dedication to caring for all the patients that come to Mckenzie Vets shines through, and she is constantly looking for ways to make our superb standards of care even better. For example, she is responsible for the introduction of intravenous infusions of local anaesthetic in addition to the usual painkillers as a standard procedure for all dogs having spay surgery to make them as comfortable as possible during and after their operation.
Claire qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2021 and achieved an NCert in Medical Nursing in January 2025. Her favourite part of her job is nursing medical patients and intensive care.
Before working with animals, Claire had an equally compassionate employment working in health care looking after the elderly.
Claire lives locally with her husband and gorgeous staffie Cesar. Her hobbies include going for lovely dog walks with Cesar, catching up with friends and going on holiday to sunny destinations.
