*** SYCAMORE SAPLINGS ARE OUT - DON’T RISK YOUR HORSE’S LIFE ***

Atypical myopathy is one of the most horrific ways for a horse to d*e. The saplings are now out. Just because horses have grazed the same field for years and been fine, absolutely doesn’t mean they will be this year.

These photos were from a case I saw in 2023. The pony had grazed the paddocks with sycamore saplings for less than an hour. He did survive, but wouldn’t have done had he been left much longer.

Please, please do not risk grazing fields with sycamore saplings. I do honestly understand how hard it is for many of you with fields that have sycamore trees. The trees need cutting down; there is no other easy way of managing them. And if you are planning on buying land, never buy any if there are sycamore trees on it, or close to it (unless you can chop them straight down).

Working with horses must be so relaxing” they said… 😜

Meanwhile me:
fighting for my life with stable mats that weigh a tonne 💀

Sweating ✔️
Covered in hay ✔️
Regretting everything halfway through ✔️

But would I swap it? Not a chance 💛

If your yard needs someone who actually doesn’t mind the graft (and the chaos 😂), I’m your girl 👇

Spring is definitely on the way… but if you’re an equestrian, you’ll know it’s not quite as simple as sunshine and daffodils 🌼🐴

It’s that time of year where we’re all checking the weather app 10 times a day trying to decide… rug or no rug?! Lightweight? Medium? a stable rug tonight? 🤦‍♀️ how thick? 😅

One minute it’s warm, sunny and they’re out enjoying life… the next it’s cold, windy and raining sideways. Classic British spring!

Mornings start with layers on, afternoons have you questioning your life choices, and by evening you’re back out changing rugs (again 😅).

The horses are confused, we’re confused… but we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Who else is in constant rug-changing mode at the moment? 🙋‍♀️

Flys will soon be the next problem 🤣 🪰 Fly rugs and fly masks at the ready!

Mr Marcus 🩶

What a difference a clip makes 😍

Typical the clippers couldn’t take anymore and needed a rest, so on Monday I still have two leg feathers to whizz off and finish 😂

Marcus will feel much better now, his extra thick winter coat is gone, he looks amazing 🤩

✨ Meet Charles 🤎 ✨

This is Charles — my horse, my partner, my biggest teacher.

He’s just starting to come back into work after 6 months off, and bringing him back feels a little bit special. When you’ve shared so many highs, learning curves and “hold on tight” moments together, it hits differently.

We’ve done a bit of everything over the years, but cross country is where he truly comes alive. There’s something about him locking onto a fence, ears pricked, heart in it — that reminds me exactly why I love this sport.

He’s bold, he’s brave, and yes… when he’s fresh he’s also known for throwing the odd funky shape just to keep me on my toes. But he’s taught me more than just how to stick on. He’s taught me patience. Feel. Timing. Trust. And how to laugh when things don’t go perfectly.

Every horse person has that horse — the one that shapes you. Charles has definitely been that for me.

Here’s to building him back up slowly, doing it properly, and enjoying every step of the journey together 🤎

Dressage prep = feather spa day 🧼✨

While everyone else is polishing boots, were deep conditioning ankle hair like it’s a shampoo advert.

Full wash, rinse, repeat — scrubbing right down to the skin because arena dust is not coming to the party. Then once they’re towel dried, out comes the secret weapon… corn flour.

Worked through the feathers, it absorbs any leftover damp, lifts at the roots and fluffs everything up beautifully. No flat, soggy feathers here — we want volume, bounce and that “effortlessly perfect look”

Clean, bright, cloud-like feathers ready to float down the centre line.

Extra? Yes.
Worth it? Also yes. 🖤✨

Harry ready to strut his stuff tomorrow ❤️

A messy process but all cleaned up after 👌😂

Right… can we just take a moment for today’s 14 DEGREES please?! ☀️

Fourteen. Degrees.

To the normal population that’s “mild.”
To us equestrians? That’s basically Marbella. 🌴😂

Suddenly we’re out there doing yard chores like we’re in a music video. Skipping down the yard with wheelbarrows. Rugs swapped. Horses half naked. Humans overdressed because we don’t trust British weather and still wore 3 layers “just in case.”

The sun comes out for 0.7 seconds and we’re like:
“Right that’s it, summer coat on.”
“Turnout without a neck.”
“Let’s hack for 3 hours.”

Mud? What mud?
Frozen fingers? Forgotten.
Back ache? Cured by vitamin D.

Even the horses feel it. Fresh but fabulous. Strutting round like they’ve personally organised the weather upgrade.

There is just something about a bit of sunshine that makes:
• Mucking out less offensive
• Filling haynets less tragic
• Riding out feel like therapy instead of survival
• And the whole yard vibe go from “why do we live here?” to “I actually love this life.”

We are simple creatures. Give us 14 degrees and a blue sky and we’re convinced summer is coming and all is well in the world.
