🐍 Adder Bite Alert 🐾
We’ve recently treated a case of an adder bite which occurred on the coastal path between Cwmtydu and New Quay — a reminder that these venomous snakes are becoming more active as they come out of hibernation. They are found most commonly on rocky hillsides, moorlands, and coastal areas.
⚠️ Signs to watch for if your dog is bitten:
• Sudden swelling (often on the face or legs)
• Pain and tenderness
• Limping or reluctance to walk
• Lethargy or collapse in severe cases
⏱️ What to do: If you suspect an adder bite, keep your dog calm and still, and seek veterinary attention immediately. Prompt treatment can make all the difference.
🌿 Stay vigilant on walks, especially near long grass or sunny open spaces where adders like to bask. Keep dogs on a lead in high-risk areas.
📞 If you have any concerns or think your pet may have been bitten, call us right away.
