Goodbye and Thank You

So as the final day of Fairways Pet Haven has come upon us and it is a very bitter/sweet day.

I have loved having Fairways over the past 14 years and I will never regret having it. I set out to prove that dogs could be happy in kennels if they were cared for properly and I believe we achieved that.

I’m sad to be closing but after 3 years of trying to sell we had to make the incredibly hard decision to close to enable us to have more freedom to have some adventures while we are still young enough to do so. We had some wonderful people wanting to buy Fairways but unfortunately the economic climates and the banks just don’t want to support small businesses.

Thank you to all my clients both those of the 2 and 4 leg variety. I have appreciated your support and loyalty over the years and have made some wonderful friends and made many happy memories. It has been a joy watching a lot of the dogs come in as puppies and grow up here at Fairways. It was always fabulous to see happy little faces jump out of the car and run into the kennels with frantic wiggle bums and waggy tails. The biggest joy was watching the nervous dogs come in and within a few days become comfortable and happy. I sincerely thank you all for trusting me and my employees to take care of your dogs and letting us be part of their story. We loved them all and their different personalities.

I have got to give a huge THANK YOU to my amazing employees. Stacey, Melissa, Aimee and Jess (past employees Hanah and Cara) have been the most loyal, dependable and joyful people to have working for me over the past few years. They showed their dedication and love to every single dog that stayed and I cannot fault the hard work they put in. Many people think that working in a kennel is cuddling dogs all day, but believe me, the hard work that is put in behind the scenes to keep the dogs and kennels clean and running smoothly is the hardest job. Thank you for coming in every day without complaint and doing the most amazing job even when it was pouring with rain, blowing a gale or more recently blizzards. I am delighted that my whole team is moving together to Carmel View Kennels and will be staying together. Fairways became what it is because of my wonderful employees and would not have been the place it was without them. I will miss them and wish them all the best in their new job. Bob (my border collie) is looking forward to coming to them for his holidays.

I’m looking forward to 2026 and all of its new adventures and I wish everyone a happy and healthy 2026. I will continue grooming so I will still be seeing some of you and I look forward to that.

FAIRWAYS SALE UPDATE

As you are aware Fairways has been up for sale for nearly 3 years. We have done everything possible to sell it as an ongoing concern but sadly that doesn’t seem to be happening. We have had a lot of interest but the banks seem not to be willing to support people buying small businesses and they have struggled to get finance.

It is one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make and I’m devastated to say that Fairways, unless we can find a buyer before then, will be closing its doors for the final time on the 7th of January 2026. Therefore all bookings after the 7th January will be cancelled.

It is not something we wanted to do as we have loved having the kennels and we had hoped to find someone to take it to the next level. However, Ken and I have a lot of things we still want to do and we are not getting any younger. 2025 has not been a good year (nothing to do with the kennels) but it has made it clear we need to start doing things for us. We don’t know what tomorrow brings so it’s time to start living for today.

I realise that we are letting a lot of people down, both clients and employees, and I am so sorry for that. I have worked so hard to make Fairways what it is and I have tried even harder to find a way to let Fairways continue but sadly I can’t see a way forward without a buyer.

We will be staying at Fairways for the foreseeable future and I will continue grooming but the kennels will be closed.

I don’t even know how to begin to thank my amazing employees. Fairways would not have become the incredible business it is without them. They are the best and they will always hold a special place in my heart.

I am so grateful to my wonderful clients, both 2 and 4 legged, for your support over the last 14 years. It has been a pleasure taking care of your furry companions and I will miss them all.

PRICE INCREASE

I‘m sorry to have to say that as of the 1st April 2025 our prices will be increasing due to continued rising costs. Boarding fees will now be as follows:

Single Kennel : £30 per day
Double kennel : £40 per day
Triple kennel : £50 per day
Fourth dog onwards will be £8 per dog.

Day Care will remain unchanged at £20 per day.

KENNEL COUGH VACCINE - REMINDER

Please note the Kennel Cough/Bordetella vaccination is not mandatory here at Fairways, but due to the live nature of the vaccine, we cannot accept your dog to stay if they have received the vaccine within 21 days of boarding.

So to be clear, If you bring your dog to the kennels for boarding or day care within the 21 days of your dog being vaccinated you will be turned away. This is something we will not compromise on as it is for the Health and Safety of all the dogs in our care.

UPDATE: A huge thank you to everyone who applied. The position has now been filled.

Fairways Pet Haven has an opening for a full-time Kennel Assistant. Must be able to drive, have own transport and able to be flexible to work weekends and holidays. Some overnight and evening shifts would also be required.

Good Morning.
I‘m sorry to say that it is that time again and something I have been trying to avoid doing. Yes, the dreaded Price Increase.

I have been trying to avoid putting our prices up but the rising costs, especially electricity are becoming unmanageable and not viable anymore. In order to continue the standard of care we provide I have no choice.

I would be devastated to close the kennels so I am taking the option of putting up our prices.

From 1st April, 2024 prices will be as follows:

Single Kennel - £29
Double Kennel - £39
Triple Kennel - £47 (unchanged)
Each additional dog after that will be £8 (unchanged)

Day Care (which has not increased for 4 years) will rise to £20 for a single dog and £10 for each additional dog.

I hate doing this but this is the only way we can continue to keep Fairways open. I hope everyone understands that this is not something I wanted to do but I will not compromise on the care we give to all our guests and this is the only way I continue to provide the level of service you expect from us.

Morning folks, since quite a few people have been phoning to ask in advance, the roads around us are generally fine with care if you drive to the conditions. There are some deep-ish snow drifts on our drive this morning which will be cleared in the next wee while. Stay safe 😀❄️🐾
