The chinchillas love to chew and Batfink is making short work of his new toys, although he doesn’t know which one to pick!

With the change in the weather, the 3 little pigs’ paddock was becoming very muddy, so we took them to their inside pen this afternoon. Thanks to Katy and Val for getting the bed bit full of straw with some rubber mats underneath to keep the chill off.
They look pretty happy, don’t you think?

Many thanks to the ‘Auld Gits’ who fundraise to give to local charities, and who picked us this year.
They dropped off a donation of £500 which will help greatly with our vets bills which have been particularly large over the last few months.
Many thanks gentlemen!

Maggie came here a couple of years ago at the age of 15. She is semi feral but does tolerate strokes.
We noticed her eyes had become quite dilated and ‘starey’, so put her into the vet for tests, including a blood pressure check.
The tests have concluded she has high blood pressure so she is now on medication to treat it and she’s back for another blood pressure check in a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed it’s done the job.

It’s hard to believe this photo was taken a couple of days ago as the healthy sheep waited for their supper.
It’s been horrible this morning and felt so cold, such a shock to the system but to be expected, I guess.
Next week they and the 3 little pigs will be moving to their winter accommodation, assuming all goes to plan.

We took all the horses in early today, due to the very wet and windy weather. They were all happy to come in, to eat and rest rather than stand bum to the wind and rain.
Ari and Takin have settled well in their new ( to them) bigger stables.
We have cameras fitted to the stables so we can monitor anybody we are concerned about, without disturbing them.

Many thanks to Aberdeen Foyer for coming out to paint an arbour over the course of 2 days. We bought this in memory of Sam, one of our volunteers, with donations for this very purpose.
Our aim is to set aside a slabbed seating area, with a scented container garden as a well being area.
It’s taken us time to start as it’s been so busy over the last year, but hopefully we can be finished by the end of next spring, weather dependant.

Our story

We’re an animal sanctuary just outside Inverurie in Aberdeenshire that gives old, ill or animals at risk a fresh start and a safe home. Animals who come here stay here, we don't rehome.

We are Mike & Louise;

We moved here in 2002 and have steadily increased our flock to a stage where we are now pretty much at capacity. We have always had an interest in animals but had not realised how deep it ran until we moved here.

Over time we came to realise there were many animals with various issues who had nowhere to go so we have become a sanctuary for those animals. They may be struggling to find a home due to behavioural problems, untreatable illness, they are now unwanted or there is just nobody else who can take them. Many of the animals were saved from being put to sleep, or have been dumped, left to fend for themselves.
