A success story!
Sorry for the long post, I wanted to share with you Teddy's success story as I am extremely proud of how far he has come along during his grooming appointments π
Teddy has been coming to me for over 3 years now. When Teddy first came to Bark Lane he was a very nervous and anxious boy. Very sensitive and reactive to noises and the grooming tools. I was unable to groom Teddy on his own and at times had to muzzle him as the noises would cause him to react. I had to ask his owner to stay with him. Owners staying doesn't always help but in Teddy's case it certainly has.
During this time, we have tried numerous techniques to try and suit Teddy. Teddy is unable to be bathed and dried at the salon due to the stress caused by the noise of the driers so his lovely owner Alison bathes him the night before for me. Maybe in the future we can achieve this but one step at a time.
Fast forward 3 years to Teddy's most recent groom. I asked Alison not to put the muzzle on today as I felt I had started to gain Teddy's trust enough for it to be removed
On this appointment, I managed to groom Teddy without any reaction towards myself or the grooming tools. Both his owner and I were over the moon and so happy for Teddy.
Teddy's groom is still not perfect, but with his owners perseverance and sticking with me as his groomer, he now leaves here stress free with his tail wagging and a belly full of treats π
The important message here is to try and stick with the same groomer and try not to keep moving around as it can stress your dog out having to go into a new environment each time. Allow them to build trust with your current groomer and remember what is most important is your dogs wellbeing. Humanity over vanityπΎπΆ
A big thank you to Alison and Teddy β€οΈ
