Which foods are toxic ⚠️ to pets….
Chocolate 🍫- contains theobromine, a chemical that acts as a diuretic, heart stimulant, blood vessel dilator and smooth muscle relaxant. Along with the caffeine in chocolate, dogs can’t metabolise theobromine well.
Grapes 🍇 (and raisins, sultanas and currants) - these contain a substance called tartaric acid, which may cause vomiting, thirst, diarrhoea and kidney damage.
Macadamia Nuts 🥜- scientists don’t know what toxin - if any - is poisonous to dogs but their high fat content can lead to nausea.
Onions 🧅- onions contain thiosulfate which can cause anemia. This leads to weakness and lethargy.

Here at Herts Holistic Hounds 🌿 we are qualified canine health advisors who can diagnose and treat common ailments in dogs from ear infections to skin allergies. We are also highly knowledgable on what your dog should be eating and whether the food you are giving your dog is ensuring they live a long and healthy life saving you time and money at the vets.
We are available 24/7, 7 days a week via messenger should you have any concerns about your dog (think of us as a 111 service but for dogs!).
We are not registered vets, however we are knowledgable and qualified in the area of canine health.
We can also treat some issues with natural home made remedies such as flea treatments and balms for skin allergies. 🌿 (no nasty hidden chemicals!)
