Life skills to live in harmony with your furry friend

Does this sound like music in your ears... or not?!

Do you fancy to understand and read your dog better then you already do? Are you in for making fun and playing games? Becoming a better team as teamwork makes the dream work.

Barkbuster is offering a 6-weeks course at our playground in Trie sur Baïse.

The course is about reading and understanding your dog, impulse control, walking proper on a lead, re-call, stay connect, getting away from distractions, having confident around novelty - All things that will help you in your daily life!

This course is for all social dogs, from teenager - age.

During the course I'll support you with summary's, information, vidoes and articles.

When: 6x Monday, starting May 5th till June 9th
Time: 10h

I'll help a bit: both are puppies adopted from LES AMIS Foster/adoptions, both fostered by Katie Ashton. A boy on the left and a girl on the right, not related, 3 years old. Bot started in a puppy group and are still part of the Barkbuster community ❤️

Playing 🎮 games during our walk

During our walks we do play games to stay connected. Today we twisted and turned, played hide&seek. Some proximity games were played, with as result that CJ stayed close, volunteeringly, for a part of the walk. Some cookies were scattered and recall was tested.

What a fun we had together!

Every day is the perfect day for some fun with your dog!

At today's classes we played 'mens erger je niet', we walked a Rally parcours, did some agility, a bit of Hoopers and, the best part, the furries had a lovely shoulder massage.

Mens erger je niet

That is the game we played, a slightly bit different, today to raise funds for Support Les Amis des Animaux

What a fun we had, impulse control was tested to the max with a 🎲 and tennisbals.

As soon as we have Internet again, I'll put up all photos.

Congrats to team yellow, Josephine Gudrun Schroeder and Lianne Gentle for winning.

DON’T STOP REWARDING

WHY DOGS SHOULD ALWAYS BE REWARDED FOR A JOB WELL DONE

Many people are initially willing to use rewards when teaching a particular behaviour, but often seem to be overly concerned about when they can stop doing this. There seems to be a focus on “the sooner I can stop doing this the better”. Surely my dog should just listen to me because I’m in charge, because they need to be obedient and should just do what I say because I say so! or “If my dog always gets rewarded it’s a bad reflection of my “authority” over them – It’s a weakness and I’m bribing or spoiling them”.

A common analogy used to explain this is a person starting a new job. You are offered a good salary and are excited to learn new skills. You are enthusiastic, motivated and learn quickly. Your employer is really happy with your progress and you are rewarded at the end of that month with your salary. At the end of your second month, you are told that you will no longer be earning a salary. You are told that because you now know the job and really perform well, it's become no longer necessary to pay you to do it. How would that affect your motivation, excitement and willingness to continue performing or even showing up for work?

The same applies to our dogs. To maintain a behaviour, motivation, satisfaction, a sense of achievement and to keep communicating in a way our dogs understand, we need to continually reward the behaviour we are looking for. Yes, there are different ways of rewarding or reinforcing our dogs if we are going to get technical - differential rates of reinforcement, fading, distance, duration or distraction or building behaviour chains etc. but the principle of rewarding a dog for a job well done, remains unchanged.
