When people think about puppy training, they often picture: 🐶 Sit. 🐶 Down. 🐶 Paw.

And while those cues can be fun, they're not the most important things your puppy will learn.

The real magic happens when we teach them to:
✨ Feel safe exploring the world.
✨ Choose to check in with us.
✨ Learn that calmness pays.
✨ Build confidence at their own pace.
✨ See training as a game, not a chore.

A puppy doesn't need to know 20 tricks.

A puppy needs trust, guidance and lots of positive experiences.

🐾 Train before you need it.

People often tell me:

👉 "I'm taking my dog to the market so he can get used to it."

And sometimes that's exactly where things go wrong.

Because if the market is already overwhelming, exciting, or stressful for your dog... learning becomes very difficult.

After all:

🏊 We teach children to swim before they go into deep water.

🚘 Driving lessons don't start on the motorway.

🪂 And nobody wants to learn how a parachute works on the way down.

Yet we often expect our dogs to learn new skills in the middle of the very situation they struggle with.

Real training happens before the big moment.

We build skills in environments where our dogs can think, learn, and succeed. Then, little by little, we make things more challenging.

Because confidence isn't created by throwing dogs into the deep end.

It's built one successful step at a time 🐶✨

🐾 The art of giving medication to your dog 😄

Step 1:
Hide the tablet in something delicious.

Step 2:
Act completely normal.

Step 3:
Hope your dog isn't a detective.

Today's choice? 🍓 A strawberry.

CJ happily accepted his special "strawberry surprise" and remained blissfully unaware of the worming tablet hidden inside 😇

Of course, not every dog is that easy. Some can detect medication from approximately 3 kilometres away and will carefully eat everything except the tablet 🙈

🐾 People often ask me what CJ does all day...

Well.

He swims.

He eats.

He naps.

Then he recovers from swimming, eating, and napping.

Occasionally he supervises me to make sure I'm doing things correctly.

It's a demanding schedule, but somehow he manages 🐶😴💛

🐾 One of the hardest things in dog training?

Realising that sometimes…
the problem isn’t that the dog “won’t”.

It’s that the dog can’t — at least not yet.

☆Maybe the environment is too difficult.
☆Maybe the emotions are too big.
☆Maybe the skill simply hasn’t been built enough yet.

Training becomes a lot clearer when we stop asking:
👉 “Why is my dog not listening?”

…and start asking:
👉 “What does my dog need to succeed here?”

Small changes can make a huge difference 💛

☀️🐶 Too hot for training? Think again

When temperatures rise, many dogs struggle with long walks, busy activities, or intense exercise.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t do anything with them.

Hot weather is actually the perfect moment for:
✔ Sniffing games
✔ Frozen enrichment
✔ Short focus exercises
✔ Puzzle toys
✔ Calm observation work
✔ A lovely massage

Because mental stimulation can tire a dog out just as much — sometimes even more — than physical exercise 🐾✨

And the bonus?
These activities are often calmer, safer, and much more suitable for hot summer days.

So if your dog seems restless during this heat…don’t just think “more exercise”.

Sometimes the answer is:
👉 less movement, more thinking 😉

There was cake.

☀️🐶 Hot weather = happy dogs with frozen treats!

With temperatures like this (hello 30°C 🥵), it’s important to help our dogs cool down safely.

One of the easiest ways?
👉 Homemade dog ice treats!

Simple ideas you can try:
🍌 Frozen banana + yoghurt
🥕 Blended veggies frozen in ice cubes
🥩 A little bit of stock (dog-safe) frozen in a lick bowl
🧊 Stuffed Kong frozen overnight

Not only do these help your dog cool down…
they also provide mental stimulation and keep them busy in a healthy way 🐶✨

Because enrichment isn’t just for rainy days — it’s just as important in hot weather.

🐾 Puppy socialisation is NOT…

…letting your puppy run up to every dog they see 😅

One of the biggest misunderstandings about socialisation is thinking puppies need to greet, play with, or interact with everything and everyone.

But real socialisation is so much more than that.

A well-socialised puppy is not necessarily a puppy who loves every dog, every human, or every busy environment.

👉 A well-socialised puppy is a puppy who can calmly and confidently exist in the world.

That means learning:
✔ To observe without reacting
✔ To stay neutral around dogs and people
✔ To recover from new experiences
✔ To feel safe in different environments
✔ To relax and disengage

Sometimes the best socialisation looks very boring:
🐶 Sitting quietly and watching the world go by
🐶 Walking past another dog without greeting
🐶 Resting calmly at a market or café

Because socialisation isn’t about creating a dog who wants to interact with everything…

It’s about creating a dog who can handle the world without becoming overwhelmed 🐶✨
