Lingual Squamous Cell Carcinoma treated with Electrochemotherapy (ECT) 🐱⚡

Performed by Dr. Orsolya Juhász - DUO-VET, Hungary.

The cat was diagnosed with lingual squamous cell carcinoma and was treated with electrochemotherapy.

Only two electrochemotherapy sessions were required, using:
- Bleomycin IV
- Cavity electrodes

This case highlights the potential of ECT as a minimally invasive alternative for the treatment of lingual tumors in cats.

Plasmacytoma treated with Electrochemotherapy (ECT) ⚡

Performed by Dr. Garry Bright - Maple Street Vet, Australia.

The dog was diagnosed with an oral plasmacytoma. Surgical planning was to remove both rostral maxillary arcades, a procedure that was ultimately avoided thanks to electrochemotherapy.

Treatment protocol:
- Intratumoral isotonic calcium chloride was administered to induce tumor cell death via calcium overload.
- This was followed by intravenous vitamin C, used to chelate excess calcium ions and support modulation of oncogenic signaling pathways.
- An adjunctive sound-based immune modulation therapy was applied, aiming to enhance immune recognition of tumor antigens and stimulate adaptive immune responses.

ECT delivery: Only two ECT sessions were required.
- Session 1: using 8 × 25 mm needle electrodes
- Session 2: using cavity electrodes
These configurations allowed precise electric field coverage adapted to tumor geometry and response.

Outcome:
- Effective local tumor control
- Avoidance of aggressive surgery

This case demonstrates the potential role of ECT as a minimally invasive option in selected oral tumors.

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Lee and J***y from SeeGene, our official ELECTROvet EZ distributor in China, to our headquarters in Toulouse.

They visited us to meet the team, exchange knowledge, and deepen their understanding of the ELECTROvet EZ and its applications in veterinary electrochemotherapy.
