What an epic week of weather we've just had. Last Wednesday had a spectacular lightning storm that last for several hours, passed over and then returned. Then there was torrential rain that caused flooding south of us in Poitiers. Followed by several days of stong gusts and showers then blazing sun. It's been an odd week. ⚡️🌬🌞🌧

So for a number of days Peppy who has PSSM2 (MIM) is in his rug to keep him comfortable. We treat all horses as individuals here and assess
their needs accordingly.

The coming week is much better weather so I have taken his rug off today and I expect he may not need it again for the next few days as the temperature goes back up to 32° Celsius.

Track walk - Concrete path.

Slatted shed floors were found on FB marketplace.

These concrete slabs have been insitu for just over a year.

Do the horses use it? Absolutely they do.

We repurposed the MudControl France slabs removed from the shelter yesterday. This now stops Buzz the Shetland from pushing the hay box around the yard with his ample bottom.

Swapping shelter floors.

We've been using Mud Control slabs for several years and they are fantastic for temporary floors, surrounding hayboxes and haynets, pathway and handstandings.

The only reason I'm swapping my Shelter floors to Valiso is because I want the Mud Control on the track where they are best suited.

The Valisol are softer and perfect as a shelter floors. I will be putting my usual Straw bedding down once I've secured a kick board along the front of the shelter.

Track walk. Dead-hedge feed zone!

For anybody looking at what to do for winter mud control before the rain arrives. Here is a section of track we surfaced last September with crushed Limestone zero - 20. We added MudControl slabs under one of the trees and concrete slatted slabs around the post and rail hay station. Area 200m2 Total cost was approximately 600 euros for 28 tonnes of stone and the terram.

We have some new project for winter preparation coming soon so I will also do a post on that.

Shires Greedy feeders 25-30mm
Corderie Mansas 30mm.

Cooler weather means more track maintenance.

Track husband Mr G got cracking on the minidigger.

A fallen tree hooked up in the hedge and a load of small stumps and roots that I kept tripping over. 🤷 Everything went into one of the dead-hedges to rot down slowly.

I've just been to visit Murphy before he leaves for his new home. Such a handsome boy, he is physically and mentally maturing nicely. Such a beautiful and expressive mover. He has a bright future ahead in whatever he does.
