Poor Mirko, a very old boy of 18 years, came to us with terrible, persistent sneezing pus everywhere. Never healed despite several courses of antibiotics and treatments in other clinics.
The canine tooth was clearly and visibly infected, with severe bone and gingival loss and a large oronasal fistula. During surgery, multiple teeth had to be extracted. A gingival flap was created to close the fistula.
Just three days after surgery, he already feels much better. Now you can touch his head and mouth, which was impossible before because of the pain.
Age is not a disease and should never be a reason to leave a dog without treatment and in severe pain. I’m very happy that we were able to help him and improve his quality of life.

Rabies Found in Imported Dog in Germany

Authorities in Germany have confirmed a rabies case in a dog from Hochdorf-Assenheim, near Mannheim. The dog, which died on 25 January, had been brought from a non-EU country and was reportedly microchipped and vaccinated.

Tests showed the vaccination was effective, but a post-mortem revealed the dog was younger than stated at the time of import, meaning EU requirements were not met and the import was illegal.

“Let this case be a wake-up call to all Member States to implement and enforce the upcoming EU Regulation on the welfare and traceability of dogs and cats,” said Ann Criel, FECAVA President and UEVP Board Member. “The cross-border trade of under-aged dogs with forged paperwork and doubtful vaccination status is a high risk for pets – and humans. Proper microchipping, registration, and checks of breeding facilities are key to stopping these illegal practices.”

When the gums grow too much (there are some causes for that) they can partially or completely cover the teeth, creating pockets where food and bacteria accumulate. This leads to inflammation, infection, bad breath, pain, and progressive periodontal disease.

Canine Cystotomy
Uroliths (urinary stones) cause pain, recurrent infections (or infection cause uroliths) and even life-threatening urinary obstruction.
When medical management isn’t enough, cystotomy is the treatment of choice to remove bladder stones and restore quality of life.
Early diagnosis and proper follow-up make all the difference
