Rota Animal Welfare League - RAWL

Rota Animal Welfare League - RAWL Rota Animal Welfare League (RAWL) is a non-profit animal care facility on NAVSTA Rota military base sustained entirely by community donations and volunteers.

Our number one mission at RAWL is connecting animals with loving, caring, forever families. Rota Animal Welfare League (RAWL) is an animal shelter that finds homes for dogs and cats, and relies on volunteers of NS Rota, Spain to care for those animals.

THANKFUL THURSDAY!

Every Thursday we do our best to highlight one of our amazing volunteers and this Thursday we'd like to express our gratitude to Danaeyah for her dedication to RAWL's animal residents!

RAWL is entirely reliant on volunteers to help care for our dogs and cats; we literally couldn't keep going without people like Daneayah taking the time to help out and we deeply appreciate every single one of our volunteers!

This Thankful Thursday we're honored to announce Veaya completed the most volunteer shifts in April and to celebrate her dedication to RAWL's animal residents, Veaya has won a 25$ gift card to the NEX! We are beyond grateful for Veaya and all our volunteers and the time they spend improving the lives of the cats and dogs in our care.

RAWL will be giving away a gift card every month to the volunteer who completes the most shifts. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer at RAWL, the first step is to attend a volunteer orientation. You can sign up for the next available orientation HERE: https://signup.com/client/invitation2/secure/5211185500110/false #/invitation

Look for some extra motivation to workout tomorrow? Well this handsome guy is going to be hanging out in front of the fitness center on Thursday, May 8th from 10am-1pm! Stop by and meet Hercules, a ten-year-old German Shepherd who is totally committed to watching other people get fit!

Hercules is available for adoption! He's a friendly, outgoing, surprisingly active older gentleman who's looking for his forever family! Stop by and find out if maybe your home is the perfect fit. Which I just realized is kind of a pun because he's going to be at the gym! Sorry, I'm really tired.

Hercules hopes to see you all tomorrow!

WISHLIST WEDNESDAY!

RAWL is entirely reliant on the generous donations of the Rota military community to function; we literally couldn't do any of this without you! Below is a list of the items we most need this week.

We would also very deeply appreciate any and all financial donations. Making certain our animal residents are healthy is one of our top priorities and vet visits are an ever-present expense for us. We also have a trainer who works with our dogs in order to make sure they're as ready as they possibly can be for their forever homes.

If you'd like to send a monetary donation, our PayPal account is HERE: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/RotaAnimalWelfare

We also accept direct deposit via Navy Fed, using the email [email protected].

Thank you once more for all your support. We are so grateful for your kindness and generosity and we know the animals are as well!

For some dogs, being in a shelter is an incredibly stressful experience, even with the best of care; unfortunately, Bentley is one of those dogs.

Bentley is a seven-year-old terrier mix and he needs a home. Like. Yesterday. He's sweet and friendly and very active; he does well with children and tolerates other dogs and would do amazing with a high-energy family willing to give him the exercise and attention he needs.

We at RAWL know committing to a dog is a big step, and for military families, it can be even more complicated when taking things like PCSing into account so if you're interested in Bentley but not ready to make a permanent decision on whether or not to bring a dog into your home, we're also looking for potential foster families who can give Bentley the love and attention he needs while waiting for his forever home!

To foster Bentley, you will need to have base access. This is to be sure you can bring him to adoption events in order to help him find a permanent home.

If you're interested in meeting Bentley to either foster or adopt him, please send us a message here on Facebook or email us at [email protected] for more information!

Good evening everyone,

It's that time of year again: kitten season. And there are always so many of them.

Unfortunately, RAWL is unable to take litters of kittens. We are not a 24/7 facility and do not have the capacity to provide the round-the-clock care very young kittens require.

If you find a litter of kittens, the best thing to do is wait for the mother to return. Mother cats will often leave their litters while they find food for themselves so that "abandoned" litter is more often than not far less abandoned than they seem. A kitten's best chance of survival is with their mother so please, do not intervene unless you are certain the mother is gone or the kittens are in an unsafe location.

We realize it can be distressing to find a litter of very young kittens but caring for them is a time-intensive undertaking that RAWL does not have the resources to attempt. Thank you for your understanding.

THANKFUL THURSDAY!

Keeping RAWL going requires far more than just caring for the animals themselves and this week we would like to highlight Michelle, one of our amazing volunteers who has been putting in a truly admirable amount of work repainting our cat kennels as well as helping to clean and organize our storage areas. Michelle's commitment to the behind-the-scenes work is incredible and we are honored to have her as one of our volunteers! Thank you Michelle and thank you to everyone who volunteers at RAWL; we couldn't do it without you!

RAWL will be attending the Kraken Games (not participating! Although I'm sure Bentley would love the chance to show off, we'll let the humans have the spotlight) tomorrow from 11am-2pm! Stop by and say hello to Bentley, learn about the rest of our available animals, and find out more about volunteer opportunities!

Rota Animal Welfare League

In 1989, three like-minded friends combined their own individual efforts of helping homeless community animals into an organization. Thanks to their ceaseless hard work, private donations, and volunteer participation, RAWL has become a thriving and caring halfway home for animals that is unique among military installations. To date, RAWL has successfully re-homed more than 1000 cats and dogs with caring NAVSTA ROTA community individuals and families.

RAWL has been an integral part of the NAVSTA Rota community for more than 30 years. As a private organization, base approval is filed for annually. We have an elected volunteer board that provides oversight of operations at the shelter. Our animals come to RAWL from local shelters and partners as well as from individuals who can no longer care for their animals.

Due to our limited capacity in space, we are unable to take in stray animals and do not have an open admissions policy.
