Rota Animal Welfare League - RAWL

Rota Animal Welfare League - RAWL Rota Animal Welfare League (RAWL) is a non-profit animal care facility on NAVSTA Rota military base sustained entirely by community donations and volunteers.

Our number one mission at RAWL is connecting animals with loving, caring, forever families. Rota Animal Welfare League (RAWL) is an animal shelter that finds homes for dogs and cats, and relies on volunteers of NS Rota, Spain to care for those animals.

Keeping RAWL going requires all sorts of activities! Right now we're looking for some incredibly helpful volunteers who are willing to come in and water our dog park a few times a week!

We are desperately attempting to keep foxtails and other prickly foliage from taking hold of our bark park; mowing and watering are two ways to fight the angry plants. If you've been through a volunteer orientation and you'd like to stop by and water the park (or mow!), please considering signing up for a groundskeeping shift!

Sign up for our groundskeeping shift HERE: https://signup.com/client/invitation2/secure/441710470084/true #/invitation

As long as you've completed an orientation, you can come any time between sunrise and sunset. All we'd need is for you to let us know you signed up and if you are interesting in mowing, please send us a message so we can make sure the mower is charged up.

Thank you again for all you do! (Sparrow says thank you too!)

One of the best ways you can help support RAWL is by donating to our GoFundMes, buying merchandise, or making a small financial contribution through NavyFed/PayPal. We receive no outside funding so we are entirely reliant on the generosity of the Rota military community to continue caring for our animal residents! Every little bit helps and we are deeply appreciative for your generosity!

THANKFUL THURSDAY!

We wanted to take a moment to say thank you to the Rota military community for all your support! RAWL is entirely reliant on your continuing generosity and you've never let us down!

This week we want to say a special thank-you to the Youth Center for visiting us on May 20th to learn about our shelter and help make treats for our cats and dogs! We're always happy to welcome groups interested in getting involved and we deeply appreciate your time and effort!

We also want to thank our amazing volunteers! We've had so many wonderful people sign up to take our cat and dog shifts and we're so grateful to everyone who comes to help care for our animal residents!

And, of course, thank you to everyone who donated supplies! Below are some of the contributions we received and we're incredibly thankful for each and every one of them!

Once again: thank you to the Rota military community for all your support!

If you're interested in becoming more involved with RAWL, the first step is to attend a volunteer orientation! You can sign up for the next available session here: https://signup.com/client/invitation2/secure/5211185500110/false #/invitation

It's that time of year again: kitten season. Spring always seems to bring a multitude of kittens here and while we at RAWL understand the impulse to want to take them all in, the truth is the best thing to do is to leave them alone. A mother cat can take care of her babies far better than humans.

If you do find a litter--especially a litter of newborns--please leave them alone unless they are in an unsafe area, in which case relocate them to the closest available safe space. Most of the time, the mother will return.

If the mother cat does not return, however, RAWL is unfortunately unable to take in newborn orphaned/abandoned kittens. These babies require round-the-clock care and we simply do not have the resources for this. If you are not able to bottle-feed the kittens yourself, posting in the community pages may help you find someone who is willing to do so but please understand this is a huge commitment best done with the guidance of a veterinarian.

PLEASE REMEMBER FEEDING STRAY CATS ON BASE IS NOT PERMITTED.

Thank you for your understanding and support.
