Imaging having a thick coat and being unable to take it off in the high summer temperatures here in Spain - your pets only answer is to pant rapidly. This is a warning sign of
Heat Stroke
Not uncommon in animals particularly domestic pets, so keep a close watch on your pets behaviour and health.
Heat storke in animals can occur at any time just as it does in us humans and can be even more critical in animals so if you notice:-
~ increased heartbeat and very red gums and tounge
~ excessive panting because of high body temperature
~ vomitting and diarrhoea
~ a change in behaviour including dizzines, staggering, & lethargy
~ and sometimes seizures
These could be signs of Heat Stroke

One flea only can contaminate your whole home filling of eggs that will become new fleas, after just a few days.

Beautiful kitten looking for a good home
This beautiful little kitten about 4 weeks old was brought to the clinic last week and was in a sorry state with ear mites. lameness and conjuctivitus - quite sick. She was found in Montesa with her brothers all of whom have found new homes. We have named her Blanqueta and in one week has made a remarkable recovery and she would love a caring family to adopt her. Blanqueta is very affectionate despite her poor start in life and will make a very friendly loving pet.

Further information on fleas and Ticks

These three young cats, less than a year old, were brought to the clinic suffering weight loss and fever and after a basic blood test and examination of their blood sample under a microscope we found they were infected with a blood parasite caused by a flea infection. To cure this required careful treatment over a period of 28 days with a specific antibiotic. After one month the infection has gone and the cats look very much better.

The important action is to prevent fleas and ticks as they are transmitters of the parasite which attaches itself to red cells and can produce anaemia, fever and weakness. When the treatment is finished the cat remains free of the parasite provided good flea and tick control is in place - the parasite is not contagious between cats.
