By Christian Johnsen & Lone Sorensen

Many studies have indicated that human contact can help dog and cats with lower blood pressure, reduce stress and improve the state of well-being of the recipient. Human contact has also been shown to increase the immune resistance. Facial and Paw Reflex therapy, and acupressure are known therapies for people, but we can successf

ully perform these therapies on dogs and cats. It is an effective manual technique that can achieve great results in a natural way, with no toxics or secondary effects. Pets Reflex therapy and acupressure can be performed on any animal, although is more applied in domestic animals, especially dogs and cats. Reflexology has been successfully performed on animals for many years by therapists in Japan, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, due to the great and quick response that animals show to its benefits. Reflex therapy on animals, although it doesn’t heal everything, treats a great variety of diseases. In Old China, approximately 3000 years ago, reflexology was already applied on animals, and it was also used as preventive medicine. Acupressure and reflexology on animals are especially addressed for functional problems as paralysis, inflammations of non infectious origin (like allergies) and in cases of pain or hormonal dysfunctions. In dogs and cats, some of the following conditions can be treated with Facial and Paw Reflex therapy:
Ear problems, Muscle skeleton problems, Skin problems, Respiratory problems, gastrointestinal problems, Reproductive problems, Nervous system problems, hormonal problems, cancer etc. Besides regular treatments of reflex therapy, minor injuries in animals of sportive use can be treated, helping them to be more resistant to injuries and to take care of their muscular and sinewy structures. In sports world, professional and amateur, we usually use reflex therapy as a part of the training routine.
