Dog fights can happen fast — even between friendly pups. Here’s how to stay safe and handle it calmly 👇
🔹 1. Stay Calm
Panic or yelling only makes things worse. Take a breath, and assess the situation before acting.
🔹 2. Try Distraction First
Clap, make a loud noise, or spray water to break their focus.
Use a jacket, board, or bag as a barrier to separate them safely.
🔹 3. Use the Leash Wisely
If your dog is leashed, use it to guide them away — not by grabbing the collar.
Keep steady tension and move backward calmly.
If both dogs are leashed, move in opposite directions until they’re apart.
🔹 4. Physical Separation (Last Resort)
Only if distractions fail.
If two people are present, use the wheelbarrow method — each person grabs the back legs and pulls backward in a curve.
Once separated, keep them leashed and at a safe distance.
⚠️ Never: grab collars, step between dogs, or try to open mouths with your hands.
🔹 5. After the Fight
Check both dogs once calm. Even small bites can get infected — see your vet if there’s swelling or bleeding.
Keep dogs separated until they’ve fully settled.
💬 Remember: Safety first, no dog fight is worth a human injury. Calm leadership and proper socialization prevent future incidents.
